This trail was the high point of our trip. Very moderate trail, but stunningly beautiful scenery.
SandySteve deserves the credit for making this work. As scheduled, we were supposed to take a different route to get to Lathrop Canyon. Steve instead took us into Canyonlands to start at the the top of the Shafer Trail. He brought along some friends who had National Park passes so that they could ride along with someone else in order to get through the gate without having to pay $30 per vehicle (And some folks already had passes.). He went and got the permits for the trail. And he got us back just in time for the banquet. Had we followed the scheduled route we would not have made it in time for the banquet. The other route adds something like an hour and half to the trip. And we would have missed the perspective of starting at the top of Canyonlands and descending all the way to the Colorado River. Thank you Steve for changing things around just a bit and making this a great trail run. :yelclap:
