i just did the ipf h4s, with parts store bulbs with new gojeep harness, and for the $140 itll cost you, you cant beat it! highly recommended

I did the same upgrade with the IPF Lights and H4 Fat Boys, never upgraded the wire harness though. Does anyone think its neccessary?

yes, for every volt drop you lose 20% of a lamps rated lumen output.

depending on what year Jeep you have the factory harness (amc) was undersized anyway. Add some high wattage bulbs to that and you're really tacxing the stock wiring harness.

A couple relays and some 12 Ga wire and you can do it in an afternoon.

Every site I looked at for the fat boy bulbs said you didn't "need" to upgrade the harness. I'll probably do it as time and money persists, but I'm going to leave it for now.

But I'm sure it wouldn't hurt, and it would be nice piece of mind not to be wondering if you're going to melt your stock stuff one night.

sure you don't have to, but simply upgrading the harness and running stock sealed beams, the harness increased the light output noticably. Plus the fact that if the headlamp switch pukes out I can just go wire the relays to the on positipon and have my headlamps back.

Just a quick question. Anybody havin problems with on coming traffic flashing high beams at ya thinking you have yours on?

h4 bulbs run from mild to wild... the stock 65/55s are basically a stock bulb, bright, but not blinding.... compared to a bmw, it doesnt flash at all....

now the fat buy bulbs hes talking about, may be another story?
im sure proper aiming helps...

has any one done the wiring harness on a XJ with day time running lights?

I've heard the DRL trips the high beam relay. so you have to disconnect the DRL module. but then you lose your high beam indicator?

any help?

With the Daytime Running Lights, you have to cut into the wiring before the DRL module to get a trigger voltage to work the high beam relay: this way the high beams are only on, full power, when the main headlights switch turns them on. If you took the relay trigger voltage from the headlight socket, then the DRL module would be turning the high beam relay on, full power. This part gives you full control from the headlight switch for your high beam full-voltage operation.
Now to make the DRL work again using the reduced voltage (OEM design) to the high beams, you need to take the output from the DRL module that originally went to the high beams, and switch it to the new lines going to the high beams at a point past the relay (closer to the headlights). This will give you DRL function without turning on the relay.

I beg to differ... If you're talking about the bluish light that all newer BMW's have, those are hid's coming through a projector. If you've never see the optics of a projector its pretty crazy when compared to normal halogen. The light is continuous on the ground, up until a certain point, where the light then cuts off like a lazer. This is then aimed so that the cutoff never goes above an oncoming drivers windshield. Maybe on a hill or something, but not on flat ground. They may appear brighter, but that's just because they have a bluish tint, which draws your eyes to the color a LOT more than stock halogen's. Heres a few pics.

Not tryin to be a jackass, just correcting :)

looks awesome, but I am a noob to headlights... so H4 is the bulb 'style' so I can buy any H4 Conversion kit, and buy the Fatboys and it will work?

Yup. Plug and play. However a bigger harness DOES help. If you guys like the IPF housings, look into the Hella, Cibie, or Autopal 200mm housings. All are E-code and have some ridiculous output for an H4 bulb. they're a little pricier though.

Yeah I'm looking at the Autopal 200mm right now... def. thinking about buying it. How much better is the Fatboy than a regular H4 60/55 bulb?

I think i'll build the wiring harness for it tomorrow while watching football!

edit: these are the ones i'm looking at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/79-0...ryZ33710QQihZ013QQitemZ230154573158QQtcZphoto $24 + 16 for shipping comes with bulbs too. Not sure how good those bulbs are, they can't be great for how cheap they are....

Edit 2: Anyone know what the $2 City Light Option is?

Thread Hi-Jack!

I would like to upgrade my 90 Suburban tow vehicle w/H-4's. Could someone PM me a vendor that carries the conversion for the suburban?

Thanks.
Tom

Tenny, the bulbs that come with the Autopals are most likely your generic replacement H4 bulbs, nothing special. However with the upgraded housings, they are going to look brighter, even though they might no necessarily be. I would suggest some aftermarket bulbs (fatboy, silverstar, HOEN, etc)

As for the city lights, those are garbage. It's just a stupid little light wedge bulb that is inserted below the H4 bulb, and gives the housings some color. You can get them in all different colors and all kinds of nonsense.
