Ok, after being Jeepless for awhile, I just picked up a 1994 2 door Cherokee. 4cyl, 5 speed, cleanest damn XJ I have seen in a long long time. Few issues to tackle so I have a few questions to ask.
1) Rear seal leaks.(Was that a standard option? Did you have to pay extra for the "no leak" rear seal?) Do I have to pull the motor to replace the seal? I can do that if needed, but would rather not.
2) Has idiot light cluster, can I change it to the cluster with gauges, and if I do does it plug in or do I have to wire up tach and everything else? Or is the wiring already there, just have to plug in and go?
3) Drivers door has not broke off, but is showing some cracking on the hinge. best way to repair it? Top of door leaks a little bit, but not too bad.
4) Later plans are to swap a 6 cylinder in, what all do I have to change to do this? I plan on driving this one for quite awhile.
5) Any idea what the MPG for a 4 cyl. is average? Not sure what rear gear it has yet, gonna try to find a VIN breakdown page.
6) How many dumb questions am I allowed? :roflmao:

Thanks, glad to be back in a Jeep!!!
Pics coming soon.....

1. Rear seal is a two piece on the 4.0. Not positive on the 2.5 but should be the same. Pull the pan, rear bearing cap will have the bottom of the seal in it. I just take a bronze punch and push the top of the seal out, then just push the new one back in, I slather it in some lube to make it easier to get in.

2. Swap the clusters and change the oil presser sending unit and the water temp sending unit for ones that are for a gauge cluster.

3. Usually you can just weld the top and what you can get to of the hinge on the body.

4. The motor mounts on the frame probably have to be cut out and 4.0 ones welded in. I'm not positive on this tho. Besides that you will probably need the complete wiring harness to the computer and the 4.0 radiator. Not sure if the transmissions are the same or not, but the 2.5 prolly uses a 21 spline output on the tranny instead of the 23 spline. You best bet maybe a donor rig that has been wrecked or is rusting away that you could swap everything over.

5. Prolly has 4.10 gears...no idea on mpg.

6. Keep asking.

Ugh, would love to get all that. But spent my cash getting this rig. But if it is still around in a a couple months I may be interested. I will get back with ya. Or if some mega mojo overtime comes around....
