Picked this up on Friday out past Gettysburg, PA. 134k miles on the odo. Some minor body scratches. Mechanically it seems great *knock on wood*. Here are some photos...

Figure out a way to replace the 'Quadra-Drive' transfer case. Pricey to replace. A friend of mine has a '95 Orvis with the 5.2 and the always on X-fer case, and it was about $1800 to replace it, in addition to the $3k tranny. Beautiful vehicles, but costly to maintain...

Looks good, though, and I'm officially envious!

How about the 242HD out of a Durango? If you can put the truck in 2wd, that could allow for some nasty burnouts :D

You can repair the QD(or is it QT?) transfer case. The viscous coupling, which is what goes bad, can be purchased for around $300.

I work for Quadratec and we sell the VC if it goes bad. I also had another ZJ with the 249 and I have no complaints.

a 231j, or 242j out of an XJ/TJ will run about $100.. I'm on my 4th one

I bought one for my wife about two months ago.

Had 231k on it when I bought it, needed tires and a transmission. Paid $600 for it.

I hate the 249 tcase so I swapped it out for a 242 out of a 99 XJ from the junk yard. It was a direct swap, plugs and everything. There's a wire you can change behind the VIC and it will show 2wd along with full time and part time. I also swapped the tcase bezel for one from a ZJ with the 242. Got the tcase for $100 and sold the 249 for $50. It does 2wd burnouts like mad.

Had the tranny rebuild locally for $1200 for everything including them pulling it and putting it back in and a 2 yr/ 24k warranty.

Changed all the plugs, wires, filters, fluids and such.

Put a set of tires on it a couple of weeks ago. Got some new heated mirrors for it and huskey liners for it for her for Christmas. Just needs a few other small things. The hatch is the only rust and I got another one at the junk yard that I just need to have painted, but its solid.

It has over 232k on it now, getting about 13mpg.

This was right after I bought it.

Looks good Ghost. Were you working on the Jeep outside Quadratec yesterday? Saw a couple guys under the hood of a 5.9 ZJ when I was leaving there yesterday...

I love XJ's but now I've had 3 ZJ's in a row and I really, really like the ZJ setup.

Thanks! Yep, that was me. Working out in the cold lol. We have two 5.9L ZJ's there (myself and another employee). Also two SRT-8 WK's, a YJ with a V8 swap, lots of XJ's but no big motors that I know of.
