I'd say hitch it up, and then decide. It all depends on tongue weight. If it sags down pretty far, you might want overload springs. But if it dosn't bottom out even with the trailor there's probably no need.
There's a removable kind of helper spring that you can get at AutoZone or someplace like that. It's a leaf that clamps on over the pack, and has several settings of "lift". Never tried them on an XJ, but they work well on other vehicles.
