So I am in the final stage of planing my trip to Colorado and Moab. I just notice the jeep Jamboree in Ouray is at the time I will be there. Is it worth the money 250$ / person. I am not a hard core wheeler 3'' lift on 31. I would like to do the engineer pass but I am by myself. Is there enough traffic on there to go alone? Plus I already booked my cabin at the KOA so I will be there no matter what. It just the Jeep Jamboree I would like to know. 250$ for some chep meals and a box lunch, to follow a big pack of jeep? What do you think?

Engineer which is the first leg on the Alpine Loop is easy. It is very bumpy/rough during the first part, but no big ledges or anything. You just get a bit tired of a constant diet of 6-12" rocks. Traffic can be quite heavy, with a constant flow of vehicles.

With the exception of Pokipsie (sp?), there are virtually no hard trails in the area.

I would not hesitate to take a totally stock XJ on any of the trails. I have led multiple runs that were loaded with stockers run by flatlanders.

There would be plenty of other wheelers up there so you won't be alone.
Just make sure that your brakes are in excellent shape as its a lot of steep cliffs and shale roads. You can check out the COFest topics for more info on the area.

I went to 1 Jeep Jamboree once for work, I would never pay for that event, especially $500.

So I would be better to keep my 500$ And I can go on the trails alone?

I would definately save the $. Get Charles Wells' book on Colorado Trails and enjoy! The first time I went there it was in my stock Ranger. As Old-Man said...no hard trails. Some beautiful scenery though!

x2

there was plenty of traffic on all the roads/trails......honestly, more that I really would have liked.....but still, it was a great time

Definately keep your money....or better yet, spend it on the Jeep.

If you have the wife/GF with you, stop in Ouray at the little chocolate factory downtown. Get a couple of the "scrap" cookies to take on the trail. That will get you major brownie points.

Stop in Silverton and eat at Romero's mexican food.

Take a few of the bucks and ride the Durango to Silverton narrow gauge steam train.

More good suggestions!

I wheeled a stock 99 upcountry and did not have any problems. I did have to be spotted on one section of imogene and freaked myself out on another section. The upcountry has about a 1" lift, a posi in the rear and skid plates. I did hit the skids a few times but did not have to take a strap on anything. Pokipsie was the only trail I did not run during coloradofest and I'm glad I did't, my wife would have beat me because there would have been body damage. I ran clear lake, imogene pass, engineer pass, corkscrew pass, hurricane pass, california pass, cinnamon pass and ophir pass. I think that was all of them.

You definately showed what a nearly-stock XJ can do with a good driver.
To the OP...save your money and do the trails on your own. You'll have a great time and see some amazing scenery.

Any more suggstions, I am going to Denver, ESTES park, Moab, Ouray, and colorado Springs, Dont need to be jeep stuff. Like the Chocolate Idea...:eyes:

If you come down I-25 then up 34 to Estes, you will go within two miles of my house. Make sure and call or stop by. I can always whip up some BBQ.

Hey, we can have a mini "Meat" and greet.

Tom's BBQ is worth the stop! And that was with a makeshift grill at the Cofest campground, I bet it's even better with his own cookin' stuff.
