One more time, Dutch has an XJ again!!

Yeah, it's just been sitting in a corner waiting until I finally got another XJ. I had to move the mount a bit to get the hi-lift sitting where I wanted it and then welded the bolts to it so all you need is your hands to get the wing nuts off. Then obviously I added tabs to bolt my modified air-kennel too. Next I'm going to add a bracket for my fire extinguisher.

Hey, you still have the MJ trailer. I might have to build me another one of those here eventually.

I think the BOD would kick me out of here if I sold my "1/2 MJ". LOL. Yep, still have it -- its on utility duty while we are in house building mode, but come summer, I'll put the Wildernest back on and hopefully we'll get some camping squeezed into the project schedule!

THOR intake installed. I dig it, although nobody ever mentioned how well you can hear it inside the cab.

Been working on the XJ finally after making all sorts of deals for the parts I need.

Suspension wise I've got RC 4.5" coils, fixed lower control arms, RC add-a-leaf kit that came installed on another set of factory springs, some 1.5" boomerang shackles, RE adj panhard bar, Bilstein 5150's for the front, and Rancho 9000 adjustables for the rear.

Wheels and tires are some generic 15x8 3.5"bs steel "rock crawlers" and 32x11.5 all-terrains combined with a full set of SpiderTrax wheel spacers.

Drivetrain consists of a HP D30 to replace my LP one, it came with a diff guard and shafts so I have spare shafts from my LP axle, and an 8.25 to replace my D35. I also picked up a factory limited slip for the 8.25 and used my RuffStuff gift cards I had received for christmas to order a diff cover for it. Still 3.55's for now but I'll be ordering a Spartan for the front and gears in the next month or so hopefully. I also snagged a Tom Woods SYE for the NP242 so no t-case drop for me.

Little details include a front winch bumper made by some drunken Dutch guy I know that like to huff Flat Green Paint a bit too much, the SmittyBuilt winch I bought while at KOH, an Optima I've had sitting around, fender trimming, and the removal of the ABS crap.

On to the pics:

Basically the beginning of my tech write-up on the ABS removal. I snagged to front lines, prop valve, and short connection line for the rear brakes all off the donor rig.

The rear brakes have a short line that goes between the frame mounted line and the prop valve on non-abs vehicles, there is the same concept on the ABS ones except it goes to the pump. So I swapped the two.

The fittings are the same so its pretty easy to do

The driver side front line is short and easy to get to, so I just swapped that out to

So far it should look something like this with the new prop valve installed

Now the passenger front line is a bit of a biotch. It runs under the steering column, along the firewall, and down to the fender on the other side. It was kind of a pain to get out of the donor vehicle that was missing it engine, radiator, and header pannel. I decided instead to take the existing line and just rebend it to where I needed it. Unfortunately this will require you to change out the fitting on it as well.

The two fittings. The left one is off the ABS line and went into the the ABS pump/module. The right one is off of the non-ABS vehicle and goes into the prop valve.

I haven't finished that up yet as I need to go into work and grab my flaring kit.

I did get the replacement front axle in though, along with the lift springs and new lower control arms. I installed new pads, rotors, and my wheels spacers as well.

I also removed the front bumper and took the plasma cutter to the front fenders. Then I found the best way ever to fold that inner pinch seem over and up against the inner fender. Its called an air hammer and I love it. :D

On the front brake hoses I went with 1995 Chevy C1500 brake hoses. They were 12$ each from Checker's but did require a little modification.

I had to bevel one of the edges to make it fit right on the caliper like so

End result minus some bolts for the hose mounting tab

Dutch, do chev 1500 rear lines work for an extended rear line?

Not sure, after some searching I grabbed a 96 Dodge Dakota V8 4wd line for the rear. It's almost twice the length of the stock line. A YJ rear line is supposed to work too.

Thanks for the info!

Ill have to grab a yj line soon.

You already tried to offer those up to me, but you keep forgetting to mention the price.

So I have to give RuffStuff a shout out on behalf of their excellent customer service. The other night when I ordered the 8.25 diff cover I was having issues redeeming my gift cards. The first 50$ GC went through no problem but the secon one wasn't being accepted. Afraid of losing the 50$ gift card already accepted by the computer I went ahead and completed the transaction. Well I gave them a call today and after explaining what had happened the guy refunded 50$ back onto my card for the gift card that wasn't going through. No having to beg, argue, or nothing. One more reason why I'll continue to do business with Dan and his crew.

I also picked up some edge trim from O'Reilly and put it on the front fenders

Then I prototyped some mounting brackets for the windshield washer resevoir. I just used cheap strapping for now, but I'll use some flat stock and make better brackets later

The rest of the day was spent cleaning the damn garage. It was a mess and I finally got fed up with it. That, and I watched more Archer re-runs via Netflix. What can I say, it was my lazy day.

The plasma cutter sure does make for a nice clean trim line. I may have to hit you up when I have time to trim my heep some more. You'll have to let me know what kind of beer and how much you want for your time and expense.

he wants lots of PBR and hot links... :D

To just trim the fenders, buy me lunch at good times. I'd say beer but a buddy at coors hooked me up and I've got more than I can keep refrigerated.

You call that beer?

x2
colorado kool-aid

also x2 on the plamsa cutter. I really haven't wanted to cut my fenders based on how bad I've seen some turn out, and I'm sure mine would turn out the same way given my on hand tools.

yours look pretty good, esp with the trim. did you cut the rears out too?
