One more time, Dutch has an XJ again!!

Ok from THAT view you look wider lol. Those beadlocks led was running were crazy little backspacing and he had the wheel spacers too. But ya you look to be pretty damn wide now. Gonna leave it low and just stretch it out a lil?

Daily driving camping rigs can't be on 35's?

Sure can.

I was just poking fun, which maybe I shouldn't do since I don't know you other than reading your posts.

It looks good though.

How quickly do you think you will go through unit bearings with that spacer, wheel, tire set up?

I am not surprised you want to go deeper on gears now though. I wish I had 4.88's with my 285's!

I want to move the front axle forward some, maybe an inch farther forward than stock (so probably about 2" forward from where it is now). The rear I'm going to leave alone. I figure 103" is where I want to be, so thats about 1.5" longer than stock. I'm still not planning on taking this thing through trails like BV Carnage or anything, although I have always wanted to run Penrose. :D

I used an airhammer too, it makes pretty quick work and lets you stretch the metal more than just the BFH.

Its all cool man, I do have a tendency to not come close to sticking with my original intentions. My YJ was supposed to be 103" WB on 1/2 ton axles and 36's. By the time I parted it out it was on 1 ton axles and 42's. I was planning on going up to 35's with this one, but not until next year and after I built up some stronger axles. I could keep running the 32's and let the 35's sit, but where is the fun in that?

I'm not too worried about the unit bearings. Even on full DD status the Jeep only gets driven 20miles a day, and thats only when I have to get my son from daycare. If I just go to work and back then its 6miles a day. For the most part I try to drive the Passat or Audi because they both get better gas mileage than the XJ did when it was stock. I'm also planning to have a front D44 built and installed before next year so the D30 only needs to last me the season.

To be honest I didn't like the 4.56's w/ the 32's on the street. It was just too much gear. 2500rpm in overdrive and I was only doing 68mph on the highway. With the 35's and my corrected speedo I can now do 75mph at 2300-2400 rpm, but the wheel/tire combo is so heavy I can't comfortably go that fast and the Jeep is constantly downshifting on hills. At least when I was putzing along at 68mph before I never had to down shift, so between the 2 I guess I'll stick with the overkill gearing. Besides, its awesome on the trail.

If you want some tires that are better for the highway my KM2s would love to be traded. they have a 2" backspacing so the same as you on spacers...

Your KM2's aren't worth enough for me to trade. Besides, they're not even 35's. More of a 34.8" tire that brand new is 2/32 less tread. .!.. :D ..!.

I don't mind driving a bit slower on the highway to get to/from the trail, and once in the mountains you can't legally do 75 anyways. I'm ok keeping the Krawlers. I still need to experiment with air pressure anyways. I've got them set at 25psi right now, but I'll probably go down a bit. They have 4-ply sidewalls and are pretty stiff.

Rocker guards showed up today, and my HD Offroad roof sliders shipped today too. :D

I'm getting a spare on Sunday. Just a nice, relatively light, 35x10.5 I'll be putting on a plain steel wheel. I don't see a need for a 430$ spare tire that weighs 75lbs not counting rim. Now, if I do lose a tire I'll be hitting you up on that one as a replacement.

F me in the A these things suck arse to install. I had the rocker all ready to go and fitting as good as I could get it but when I sucked it down to the brackets underneath it pulled out and away from the body along the top seam. My solution? Weld the crap out of it. These things are never coming off now. I think it looks sweet as hell, but its been an all day anal rape fest over here today. Definitely not worth the headache these expensive mo-fo's cost me. As a result I finaly decided between the C-Rok rear bumper and the JCR one. I'm getting the C-Rok bumper.

Pics (now I've got to do the other side)

I had to cut off part of the front due to how trimmed out my fenders are, so I drilled two new hole and counter-sunk them to retain the provided hardware

The side tube is beefy 1.75x.120 tubing and will match nicely with my roof sliders once they get here

In order to keep it up tight to the body after tightening down the bolts that hold it to the brackets underneath I had to weld the thing to the rocker itself. I was contemplating doing it anyway, but don't appreciate being forced into it when I've got a wheeling trip tomorrow.

All in all the one I got done looks awesome fully installed, but its a total pain to do and I kind of wish I'd just ordered regular rocker guards instead. Oh well, now I have more motivation to just fab my own stuff again. I mean why pay for something that doesn't fit right when I can just make ill-fitting things myself?

You might have to trim that lower part of fender back further. any type of turning at tuck those 35's might.rub with the lift you have.
otherwise look great. would tie in well to this hore tube fenders

Yeah, I was already thinking a set of those cut down a bit to fit with the JCR rockers would be sweet.

I already checked for clearance lock to lock this morning. with the axle at full droop and the driver side spring removed I bolted the tire onto the driver side and raised it up as high as it would go, then I turned the wheel lock to lock. Thats how I figured how many hockey pucks to add. I'm running 3 hockey pucks plus the Daystar extended upper bump stop. Leaves me with a whopping 2" of uptravel. Once I get the axle pushed forward a bit and can cut out the battery tray and matching "tray" on the driver's side I'll be able to remove a hockey puck.

We already had this discussion a page or two back. It's still only on 35's w/ a 4.5" short arm kit. Nothing crazy going on....... yet. :D

All painted up and installed, I stayed up until almost midnight finishing these up before today's wheeling trip. As much of a pain in the arse as they were, I do love the way they look.

And I really love this brush on Rustoleum Hammer Finish, thanks again Ashman for pointing me towards it with your excellent write-up.
