:compwork: Will the concept of on board air's a/c pump work on the xj as it does on the wrangler. Any one do this mod. and were to buy the bracket.

i have the stock Sanden air compressor on my MJ and my OBA setup works perfectly. just go to the junkyard and find your self an A/C compressor, bracket, and get a new belt. once you do that, it's easy.

if you don't need A/C in your XJ it's very easy. mine didn't come with A/C so I just went to a pick n pull and got the compressor and bracket, went the parts store and got the different serpentine belt and upper radiator hose, then wire and plumb it up.

There's a nice writup on madxj on adding a second AC unit for OBA to and XJ.
Search under their tech articles.

Yes it will work AND you can retain AC. I've done it and lived to tell about it.

Get a York 210 out of a Ford, AMC, Volvo or Mercedes, get a bracket from Kilby (or me if my brackets ever get worked out) and bolt it up.

Yes, I too have done it. I've got a '98 that I added a York to with factory air cond. and the Kilby bracket did not work out well for me. I made my own bracket based on Kilby's that mounted the York in line with the existing belt, mounted it solidly, and then used a serpentine pulley on the York. I had to move the battery (to the drivers side) and had to have the air conditioning lines massaged a bit to clear everything. I also went with MORE tortion rubber motor mounts to reduce engine movement in the engine compartment. One of the most useful mods I've done! Jeff

Sorry for the hijack, but I have a question. Why would you add a second AC compressor for OBA and not use an hardmount electric unit. It seems to me that there is a lot more involved in adding the AC...just currious because I want to do an OBA setup as well and my father in law suggested the second AC unit and my argument was that it would be too much work and cost more....let me know if I'm wrong. Thanks! - Joe

Time, my boy. I can air up a tire from 10 PSI to 32 PSI in about 45 seconds. I can run air tools directly off of the compressor with great ease.

I push about 9CFM at 95PSI... find an electric (besides the only one based on a York at $800) that even comes close...

They don't.

What he said. Same exact situation except I converted to electric fans after my fan and radiator kissed.

Did your Kilby bracket break as well? Mine did so I'm fabbing up a much stronger one to replace his. Any input on what you did to strengthen yours?
