OK, so who is actually going to run Dusy?

We're figuring out food, and need a head count. Mil is going to make Carne Asada for the group the first night, and we'll do a pot luck the second night.

Does anyone need directions to the camp spot at Dinkey for Wed night? Will anyone be carrying a gas can?

I know Scott and Amy are going. Gary, are you going for sure? Chuck, will you be ready and able? Anyone else?

Mark(Bronco) and I are thinking we will head out early Saturday, the opposite way you guys are going, Hopefully meet you and head back out. I'll start another post, so it don't get confusing, ya right, :D. BTW Which way are you going?

South to north......Courtwright to Kaiser Pass. We may stay at Ershim Sat night, or past there at Lakecamp Lake. Depending on what the group wants to do, and if we're making good time, we may go to Ershim Lake Friday and just hang there all day Saturday.

Just make sure it is a little bigger than the one a certain :farmer: brought last year!

Looks like we have 10-11 rigs for this trip, plus the Fresno guys if the join us on Sat. I need to make a correction on the food. Mil is making chili the first night, not Carne Asada, so if you want, bring something that will go with chili. He'll have enough for everyone, and will even make a little without meat for the vegan folks (I think Paul S is coming). We'll do a pot luck for dinner on Friday. Mil is bringing a bunch of ribs for his part.

See you all Wed evening at Dinkey.

Veggie Chili

Amy and I have a great veggie chili recipe and were thinking of bringing it anyway, but if Mil is already planning on making some without meat we'd be happy to bring a pan of cornbread and honey to go with it. Amy is all veggie but I'm flexible :)

Either way works great. We also will be making quesadillas for appetizers for the Friday potluck with salsa and whatever else we can put together in the next day or two. And definitely some tequilla for the ritual campfire toast. Jesse, are you coming (and hopefully bringing your blender!)? Email me if you can think of anything else that we might need...

Hypothetically speaking, suppose I have some slightly bent lower control arms, and suppose they need to be reinforced on the trail (you know, so you guys can practice with your slick onboard welders)...what would I want to bring along for a reinforcement? From what I gather cheap box wrenches are a popular solution...

Is it Wednesday yet???

Scott

Sorry, don't think I'm going to make this one unless I finnish up this job I'm starting tomorrow in two days.
I'll probably head up to the 'con on Friday and help with the work that FOTR is doing.

Do we need extra gas? Or if we top off at Dinky, will that cover it? I don't want to confirm yet, as my manly presence might discourage Paul S. And what's with all the veggies on this trip?

I usually fill up at that station 3/4 of the way up the hill & use about 1/2 tank total.
Erik, If I were you I'd run it on 1/4 tank Max. You'll be fine.

We should be able to make it, but if we top off in Prather it might be tight. Topping off at Cressman's Texaco should be fine, and definitely topping off at Dinkey will be fine. People have run out of gas on Dusy, so it can happen.

If one or two people are carrying gas cans, we'll have some just in case. I'm figuring on topping off in Dinkey. Cressman's Texaco is open till 8:00 pm, so that's a good option if you'll be there in time. I can't count on that, so I'll fill up in Prather and top off in Dinkey.

Scott, IF you actually needed to repair them, I think a piece of angle iron would be best. The only problem with angle iron would be forming it to the shape of the bent control arms. It could be notched and bent to conform, if needed.

BTW, I won't have my welder. It's being pulled out and sent back for repairs. Does your alternator charge at 18 volts? :) The over voltage causes my stereo amp to shut off......can't go on vacation with a malfunctioning stereo. I will have welding rod, helmut, and jumper cables, just in case.

Control Arms

controlarm_4.jpg

I noticed after the Rubicon that on full droop the upper surface of my RE lower control arms had been jammed against the edge of the bracket where they attach to the axle...both have a small (maybe 1/16 ") dent across the tube, nothing major...probably happened on the second day when I was driving open front and back after my ARB compressor o-ring went south. Never had this problem in the past...The arms are still straight, they just have the dent in them. I'll take it easy but might be good to have one of you guys give them a lookover. Seems like they could be reinforced pretty easily if need be...I took the grinder and went to work on the edge of the brackets so now there should be enough clearance and at least a nice beveled edge instead of the sharp edge that was there before if they do still hit...have to see.

We'll be leaving Wed. about 10:00 am so should be to Dinkey Creek by 3:30 or so. I assume the camp spot is the usual place across the road from those little cabins?

See you all down there!

Scott, you should be OK, especially if you ground some away from the edge of the shock mount.

Yes, we'll camp in the same spot across from the cabins. About a 1/4 mile past the Dinkey bridge, turn left onto 10S36 at the Camp Fresno sign, then turn right into the trees. Bring some firewood if you can.

See you in two days,
