Oh boy, another tires thread!

FWIW
I have Hi Tech's on mine, I did have one problem. A hunk of tread the size of your fist came off right in the middle of the tire. Since another looked like it may do the same thing they sent me 2 tires and other than that I have about 10k on them. Wear is good, ride is good, traction is good. Did have to wait 2 weeks for them. Kind of a bummer to have jeep sit that long waiting for one tire.

And for about $50 less per tire than Big O, too. But is the quality there at Walmart or at Big O?

More than likely they are the same exact tires, just different names on the sidewall. The name castings can be easily changed in the mold,so it's in all likeliness they are in fact the same tire. Many tire manufacturers do this. The Big O's do have that warranty, but I guess that's where the extra $50 comes in. Check on the warranty of the Wal Mart tire. They may have something similar to it :dunno: Swampers get my vote, though. Tough sidewalls and unbelievable traction, but then again,I don't HAVE to drive mine every day,I just like scaring the little old ladies with the welded diff in parking lots(not to mention the goofy looks of my co-workers when I roll into the parking lot in the morning):D

For actual experience's sake:

Before buying my tires, I did some research and was able to determine conclusively that the Walmart version of the Big O M/T is the exact same tire made by the exact same manufacturer with the exact same tread compound and carcass in the exact same mould.. different words written on the side. ... the only difference is the warranty big O offers and walmart does not.

All in all they have been very good tires.

Treadwear blows away the general grabbers I had on my old trail monkey.. that pic shows them with about 20k on them (well over half useable tread left)

They have decent manners in the rain, for an unsiped mud tire.

A bit loud on the street, but running them at 34PSI quiets them up a lot and noticeably decreases rolling resistance. Wears out the center of the tread at that pressure? maybe. but I always run 'em at that PSI and treadwear looks pretty darned even to me.

In the snow, they pack exactly the way you'd want them to, but you can clean them with a bit of spin if need be. Deep snow and soft soil are definite strong points for this tire.

I've noticed they're not quite as directionally confident in bottomless sand as my roommates BFG A/T's. This was expected, as his tires are narrower and have a sharper shoulder profile.

They are quieter than General Grabbers and Swamper LTB's but louder than MTR's.

I have not experienced sidewall failure or any type of puncture. No significant chips or cuts in the lugs.

FWIW, i'm no web wheeler, this truck and these tires earn their keep where it counts. :D

ha! mike you answered while I was writing my answer... ;)

called trail boss hv's here. Had 35" ones on the yellow xj. Worked good but stay off the sharp rocks. Lots of cuts, course the swampers I replaced them with are getting cut up too. Must be the trails. NOT GOOD IN THE MUD,

Did you go with Walmart for the price or Big O for the warranty?
Have you spent much time on rock trails, or mostly the stuff I cut down into a list?

What do you mean cuts, cosmetic, or all the way through the sidewall?
Would you get them again?

I wouldnt get them again. If I did I would not trail ride on jagged rocks, they also load up a bit in mud, but in tellico they did great, not that I tried too hardcore trails, I still had to drive it home. Good for what they are. I'd just save a few extra dollars and get truxus mt's or bfg mts.

I went with walmart for price. I never tend to cash in on warranties anyway.

Rock trails? what? we don't have any rocks here in arizona! ;)

yes, of course they spend most of their time on rocks.

What we don't have here are mud and snow, I usually have to go to another state for those types of things.

Here are some example pics from where I usually wheel.

This last one has some extra anatomical features that you might not want to look at if you're not human or something. So don't click it if you don't want to see, OK? http://apanthropy.nailed.org:150/pics/boobies.jpg

Anyhow, the tires seem to do OK on rocks.

oh, I forgot to add..

I probably won't be buying these again. as I mentioned, their strong points seem to be snow and soft soil, and while these perform well on rocks too - i'm going to go with an A/T next time around because here in AZ, all terrain tires work beautifully and are nicer on the street.

Ok cool, thanks for your input.

If you were to disregard street performance, would you get these again?
You can link those kinds of pictures all day long.

disregarding street performance, yeah I'd give them another spin. They hold up well and have yet to disappoint me off road.

They're definitely an improvement over the General Grabbers, and there's not much else in their price range. (referring to the walmart price)
