All signed up. Funny thing, at first your Dad was going to put us near you, then he had a change of heart and found a better place. Said something about we really shouldn't camp near you RJ, hahahahaha.

that's my dad...real joker that guy....:D

Oh no! The wife and daughter overruled me and we now have a cabin reservation. Something about wild animals and comfort. . . Geezzz. . . .

HEY! Where's everyone else on this? This should be a lot of fun and a relaxing fall weekend to boot.

The cabins are cool...you get a nifty gas grill too ;)

ps...I reserved the potting shed...quite possibly the coolest cabin...evah!!! :)

Ya, but I like camping more on the line of your "Locked" pics. Those sunsets were awesome. I'd have been awake for sunrise too. Your Dad said that you'd gotten that one. Looks neat in the pics.

Wondering what meals to plan for. Know Eagle was talking about going out for lobster one meal, probably Saturday night? I'm thinking 2 mornings for sure but unsure of the lunches. We eating out on the trail Saturday, picnic style or . . .? What's your plan RJ?

I keep seeing references to "trail" -- but unless RJ can get some infor from some of the locals, we're not really going to be doing a trail ride 'cause thar ain't none in the area that I know of -- certainly not on Mount Desert Island itself. At this point I think what we have going is more along the lines of a meet-n-greet type of weekend. RJ and I are trying to find at least some mild trails, but if we can't find any I don't want anyone to think we lured you there under false pretenses.

I am seeking a location for a lobster dinner "in the rough" (which is the traditional way to eat 'em. The place on the dock in Southwest Harbor closes for the season the weekend of Oct 10-13, so that's not available. My spies are at work checking out some of the alternates. Saturday afternoon/evening is probably the best date/time for that.

sorry guys was all set to go but then.... ( i work in tv) the halloween parade for york is scheduled for sunday the 26th. gggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I was fired up for this always wanted to go to maine and now i had a reason. Lets do it next year as well!! for all us sorry saps that gotta work

You can swing a dead cat around up there and get Lobster fresh off the boat...and my parents have a huge steamer (do like 10 lobsters at once) aso we'll be pretty set!

So we could just buy a bunch of lobsters at one of the pounds and cook 'em ourselves at the campground? That sounds interesting -- what about weather protection in case of rain, is there some kind of a picnic shelter? That was one of the reasons I was looking at the commercial lobster pound restaurants -- no muss, no fuss, and a roof over us if it rains.

Heck yeah!!! The pool house is often used for lobster bakes and such...easily hold 20 folks plus....

What do we do about claw crackers, etc? Or do we just give each claw a whack with a BFH when we pull 'em out of the cooker?

They have all the hardware we'll require ;) :D

...except maybe a bib....

been a while since any new info on this... i assume the decision is made to do our own "down east lobster bake" ? that sounds cool.... whos picking up the bill? split equally? i'm cool whatever we do.. but it wasnt spelled out in plain english what the plan is... eagle's leaving soon and the "other" october events are going to take alot of our attention away from this event until its practically on us.... i'm looking forward to this and i'd hate to see it fall apart.... i'm sure RJ and Eagle are on top of it but it's been quiet lately...
as a side note.. Earle from RI is planning to attend as well....

Actually, "Sid," it hasn't been decided yet, and the issue of payment is one of the reasons. The other is the simple logistics of getting all the stuff to the camp ground, cooking it, and cleaning it up. If someone who didn't want a plate of steamers suddenly sees how good they look -- too bad.

If we go to a commercial lobster-in-the-rough place, anyone can order more, change their mind, or go back for seconds or thirds with no problems. The places that are likely to be open late in October, unfortunately, are a few miles away from the camp ground, but overall I think it would be a lot cleaner (both literally and figuratively) to head out as a group.

I hope RJ is setting the local spies to work finding out if any of thosde places will still be operating the last weekend in October.

I'm definitely up for it.

I'll probably grab a tent site, and sleep in the bed of the MJ.

BTW, Eagle.... it made it without a hitch, and I've got some parts for ya ;)

I'm having Dear ol' dad check the Pound that is just off island...

Sorry I've been incommunicado as of late, just been insanely busy with all of this Surf!
