OBDI or OBDII

I posted this in non tech also. Does anyone know if a 1995 cherokee sport is OBDI or OBDII. I need a new CAT and need to know so that I buy the right one.

you mean the guy your buying it from doesn't know? Look to see if there is a second o2 sensor near the back of the cat, if not I'm pretty sure its OBD 1

No sensors on the cat at all. I usually dont trust car parts counter guys with smog things Id rather find out on my own go in with the correct part # a buy it.

My 95 was ODBI but I don't know if it changed mid year or not. The only O2 sensor should on the down pipe after the header. If their is a sensor after the cat then it is ODBII I believe.

It should be a OBD1. I had a 95' that I sold about a year ago and was happy it was an OBD1, because you can go with an aftermarket, ie cheaper cat. I think 96' or from 97'+ the OBD2 was used. You should be able to get that cat installed for less than $120 out the door. I got mine done at Muffler Tech I think it was called. I suggest getting a high flow cat, it's like $10-20 more.

OBDII started in 1996. Any muffler shop should be able to tell you what cat you need. It is a major bummer that OBDII vehicles need mostly factory OEM cats.......can be expensive.

1996 and up where OBDII. Not sure about other parts stores but if you goto an autozone they will test it for free (pull the codes). And the O2 sensor is easy to change out, as is the cat. You can do the job yourself.
