O/T Looking for a kraut mechanic

A friend of ours asked me to look at her sister's car, the sunroof is stuck part-way open. They bring over a 1998 BMW M3/3.2i, sweeeeeeeet!

Sure enough, the hatch is stuck:

She took it to one shop: They quoted her $180 labor to drop the headliner and close the hatch. Not fix anything, just close the damn hatch.

I can, and probably will learn how to close the damn hatch. What she really needs is a competent mechanic to service the car without trying to bend her over.

So I come to you my motorhead friends, any recomendations for a decent shop?

there's a guy up on evans, autobahn auto repair or something like that, he worked on my audi and did good work pretty cheaply.

not a BMW guy but IME most german cars have a manual crank under the center pod thing there on the roof, no such animal in the beemer that you can just crank it shut manually?

edit: I seem to remember the guys name is Randy at autobahn.

DJ, yes it does need TLC. I think my biggest concern about taking this on, is that I'd just want one for myself. LOL

did you check bimmerforums.com? I bet it's not an all too uncommon problem...

On some cars you can manually close the sunroof, there is a tool that fits into a screw and you turn that to crank the roof shut. If they have the owners manual it may say something about it in there.
