NWC Picture of the day

That looks better just make sure you preload it with 25 thousands to help gear deflection should take a good pounding with a dead blow to get it in the housing

Make sure you add some carrier preload too, last time I did gears the recommended amount was 12 or 15 thou per carrier bearing after final pattern, iirc.

Pinion preload is set with the pinion seal and carrier not installed yet, also. I've seen people confuse that one.

Yep
Got it, done this a few times.

You guys know they make a tool to tell you pre load in inch pounds right?

Way better then setting it up and shoving an extra shim in.

Aaron Barnes needs to do this with that CJ grill thats collecting dust:

Just figured I should make sure

I actually made my pinion preload tool, I didn't want to try reading a torsion bar style torque wrench while turning the pinion and didn't want to spend 350 bucks on a dial style inch-pound torque wrench. So I cut an 8 inch diameter (4 inch radius...) piece of 3/4 plywood, drilled four holes in it for the pinion yoke bolts, threw a brad in the edge, ordered a hanging scale that read up to 11 pounds, added a few feet of string, and now 10 pounds tension = 40 inch pounds preload :gee:

It's time to lift the In-law's ride!!!!
