If it gets hairy out, you can run full or part time on the road. The Montana weather is somewhat unique with it being so cold that the road is bone dry except the solid ice patches. I've driven my xj with lunch box locker front and rear stuck in 4wd 70'miles on dry pavement. Pretty unnoticeable on the freeway, but real chirpy making tight turns.

i use full time 4 at the boat ramp and also on my lawn in wet weather, and also in heavy rain situations on the street i wouldnt want to be without it, (np242)
