NP231 linkage adjustment?

So, one of the things done to my XJ before it shipped was a tcase rebuild and SYE install. I guess the fella that did the install forgot to test the 4x4, because it doesn't work.

With the engine idling, I put the auto trannie in neutral, pull up and push towards passenger side, and then can't pull in to 4x4.

After a ton of searching, people say to disconnect the linkage to test that the tcase will shift willing not linked to the shift handle. Which part of the linkage exactly do I disconnect?

Now, let's say that disconnecting the linkage allow the tcase to shift. How do I go about properly adjusting the linkage? I couldn't find a tutorial on it.

Follow the bar down to the xfer case. Then unbolt the nut (i think its 12mm) the bar slides off. its a square hole. Only goes on one way. You can take your wrench and pull back on the bolt part and feel it shifting in all the "gears".
Also . drain your fluid and check for metal shavings. Use Dex 3 transmission fluid to replace it.

Once you have the Adj. Bolt loose, manually shift the case into 4low. Go back up top and place the shift lever in 4low, with a 1/8" drill bit in between the shift gate and shift lever, bungee in place, go back underneath and tighten the adj. Bolt.

Should shift great after that!

Thanks. Hopefully it's not something inside the case. I'm hoping he at least bench tested it.

It's dark here already, so I will have to do it tomorrow. And since I have a lift now, I won't be laying in the gravel driveway.

pull the xfercase out.. and take it apart. maybe the fork "slipped" out?
