Non US Market info

What differences are you interested in, the Dana 44 front axle on South America XJ'S ? There are only a couple of major differences between USA XJ'S and export XJ'S. Engine size/type and right hand drive are the major ones.

It would be logical to assume that the PCM is programmed for the locally available fuels and emissions requirements (if any). What that programming actually is would be more difficult to determine unless you can find somebody that has one of each PCM, and the skills to view the programming.

A little off topic, but does anyone know what a "Cherokee MK1 LTD" means in American? Saw it on a U.K. ebay ad.

Probably 96 and down body style, limited trim.

That's what I wasn't sure about, I know the computers on newer GM products have most of the Brazilian Market ignition and fuel mapping in the US market computers, kinda was wondering if that might have been the case with the '97> computers.

Sidewaysstarion is pretty savvy when it comes to this stuff
You might shoot him a pm and see if he can help

I'll do that, thanks!

In South America, 97+ most (if not all) came with ABS and Dana 35. Many with manual transmission and 3.07.
Some with the 2.5td from VM Motori (hard to maintenance , AFAIK).

I think Brazil is a big ethanol user.

That's why, I wouldn't be surprised if the pump and injectors are probably the same, but the fuel and ignition maps would need to be different for the higher blends. I think they use a minimum of 25%, a max of 100%, and have recently started getting in 85% for fuel and vehicles (which may have been selling well since they can burn both). I've tried mixing 15%-20% in my '98 without issue with one accidental fill up that was closer to 25% where I flaked out and let the pump run until I realized I had put 5 gallons in it the tank instead of only 1-2 gallons (we barely have any E85 pumps let alone blender pumps for lower percentages). Luckily it was winter and winter blends are only 70% ethanol instead of 85% for better cold starting characteristics so I dodged a bullet on that front.

If the computers are the same, it should safely allow for blending like I did last winter in the truck, only with a higher percentage like I accidentally in the tank. Not too worried about the alcohol attacking the plastics and rubber, it's probably run 10% it's entire life it if was from this area originally and haven't seen any issues that ethanol supposedly causes in the last 10 years and 105k of it's nearly 160k miles.

Where I live the gas and diesel are crap (Uruguay, next to Brasil).
Common rail diesel engines had so many problems that most of brands stopped to import diesel engines (besides higher taxes, etc, etc).
The 4.0 eats anything I drop to it. Didn't tried diesel :-)

It would probably burn diesel too Marcelo, I've heard of people accidentally putting diesel in the carbed 70's era AMC I-6's by accident and they would run........just not turn off:laugh: Wouldn't be a little bit surprised if these motors could be converted to diesel engines too.
