This has been hilarious so far.......buncha dorks shouting out names.

and this is constructive in what way?

this looks like the construction of some treehouse club by a bunch of 12 year olds.

barking out names doesn't create anything, its just a more formal way to exclude yourselves from having to *DO* anything, by throwing others under the bus that is the midwest BOD. This up-for-grabs approach will do nothing except identify those who DO NOT want to get involved.

Sean R is the only guy I know that APPEARS to care about getting something organized, wether or not he chooses to become an officer in this chapter, I would encourage sean to at least head the task of forming a behind the scenes nominating commitee, and the process by which this nominating committee procedes has proven to be an effective way to organize and construct an active and enthusiastic BOD. It entails a much more careful and personal approach than simply impulsively rattling off screennames.

my opinion on the matter

(I appreciate the nomination for brewmeister by the way! ;) )

Can I throw you under the bus, king of the dorks? :D

I haven't been too vocal, being the n00b that I am. I don't want to overstep my boundries and I really have know idea how this process works either.

From sifting through the threads, it seems that the big dilema in forming a chapter is getting people to volunteer their time and efforts... I'd like too see this chapter take off. We really have a great group of people here. I'm totally up for it, NACfest was my first NAXJA event and it was awesome! I would be proud to be apart of putting a successful event like that and many others together.

Let me know what needs to be done, I'm new to the whole "club" thing, but I'm happy to help.

That's my .02
;)

I must admit, my only formal chapter BOD experience was handed to me because the original holder of my position as the NAC treasurer stepped down and I volunteered to replace him. So, I am unfamiliar with how the nominating committee would work. Enlighten us, oh great one.

Beez, thanks for your input. Sean and others have asked for input on how to get started for a while now, you drop little clues here and there and leave it to everyone else to figure out what you mean. I am sure any constructive help you can give will be welcomed, but keep it constructive. Postings like this serve no purpose, none. If we (yes...I said we) are proceeding in a way that you have have seen not to work, or if there is a better way, let us know.
You know, the folkes listed here may or may not serve, none have declined the honor. I would prefer to let the membership choose its leaders, not some "behind the scenes" group. Once we have a group of folkes together, I would agree that the nominiees meet, or talk, and together work out a couple of choices for each office. After the group gets narrowed down, a listing of each persons qualifacations, and thoughts, ideas, and such can be posted to help those who do not know them make a decision.

Or...maybe I am wrong.

I do agree that Sean is the man that has gotten this going, he has my support and help where I can.

yes you are.

you totally missed the point.

do you see open nominations and name-throwing everytime the national election comes around? no. there's a good reason for that, yet national elections run smoothly each year, with no shortage of volunteers.

want the recipe shitbag?

:D

uuuuummmmmmmm...doesn't this board have a voting (poll) function?

How 'bout a thread for each position, everybody vote, winners take their places, officers finalize the by-laws, and submit to the BOD to be recognized as a chapter.

Nope, but you cannot compare the 2. The better comparisson would be a small town election. Each canidate submits a petition with signatures to be put on the primary ballot, the winners go on to a final vote. ANYONE can submit a petition, as long as they have signatures (seconds in our forum), and be placed on the ballot for all the voters to consider.

I think I get it just fine, you seem to have missed it.

Whatcha think there polesmoker??

The list of who's running for what is up there for all to see...so a formal nominating committee is a little late for this one.

I'd suggest leaving time (1 week?) for anyone else interested in running for office to present them self and go through the nominating/seconding process. It's also a time for the nominated cantidates to present themself to the rest of the prospective Chapter Membership.

:wantyou:

Woodtone,

we appreciate your input for sure, and I think some of us have some good ideas how to proceed from here.....

it would be nice if the name-throwing could be put on hold for a bit, to see if the other ideas develop.

there is real interest going on, and the batch is brewing, its very close.

remember, there is no parking in the red zone.

Thanks for you input Woody, we do appreciate it and would like to see more of it. But the ball is in play.

I leave for 2 days and I get thrown under the bus. I agree with Beez on both counts, we should have someone, namely Sean select a committee to gather the nominees. Secondly, or B which ever you prefer, while I am suprised at the nomination for Treasure, I would have to decline. I didn't ask to do it, have a hard enough time keeping my work and personal finances in order, and don't really have the time. Events Coordinator, that is what I would be up for doing. My point in this whole thing is that you should be putting people into positions where they would fit. Sean is the driving force behind the chapter, name him pres. Les is good with getting this worked out, put him as VP or Sec. Look at each others strengths and go with that. Don't put people in positions that they don't want or can't do well, that will lead to the MWC BOD failing. After all the "work" that will go into this, do you really want it to fail? My .02 is to scratch this whole thread and have Sean pick 3 people to start a nominating committee. Put some thought where people should go and then approach those people when you are through. 3 people on the NC would be fine that way there are no deadlocks.
The 3 for the NC that would be a perfect fit would be:
SeanR
Beez
LessLimited
I think that as funny as some may see those as being the NC, if you really think about it, they would be the most honest, giving their unbiased opinion. Additionally, when did this become the IL/IN chapter? Aren't there others out there that would/should be considered for Officer positions? Granted, it would be easier to get these people together but honestly, if we are the MWC, we need to be more inclusive.
I will get off the :soapbox: now.

I'm always of the opinion that the ends justify the means... that being said, I'll support whatever election method you guys decide upon. I'm more focused on developing the chapter itself, so I don't really care who leads or how they get there, I'm going to be involved regardless, as an officer or a volunteer. Can someone explain how a nominating committee is as objective and democratic as general open nominations? Me thinks we need to have a leadership meeting among the nominees and interested parties. :callme:

If we decide to go with a three member board we would need to combine the nominations for recorder and treasurer, as that would be one position, and if every one is happy with the list of nomonees, then lets get off of the pot and get an election set up.
