I have my XJ stored at a buddys place & during the winter he would go out and start it every now & then to make sure everything was good & charged etc.
One day he went out & it would crank & crank but not start.
Through a process of elimination I have replaced the CPS...the computer...the pickup coil....& the relays due to it not having spark and fuel either.
I have found that if I bypass the relay & make it give power the fuel pump does pump & the coil gets power......but it doesnt make spark at all.
I also noticed the coil has a crack around the bottum.
Just a simple question here.....when a coil has power & ground but doesnt produce spark does that automatically make it bad or does the distributer pull spark from it?
I plan to throw a coil on it but it would be nice to know it is for sure bad 1st.
Hopefully this is it.....I am tired of buying parts & doing no wheeling.
Thanks for any help you can offer.....I need it.
