Just bought my first Jeep today. I posted a while back asking some general questions. Picked up a 98 sport with a 4.5 procomp short arm lift on 31"Bfg ATs. Everything works and its seen very little off road use. Don't plan on cutting it up, just keeping it a clean daily driver and making it a bit better than it is. I'll post up some pics when I take delivery next week. It does have a little bit of play in the steering. Any info or a point in the right direction on correcting that would be appreciated.

First step is to figure out exactly what is worn out or what it is you want to replace. Lots of options depending on what kinda price you wanna spend.

Welcome aboard its all fun here.

If it needs a new steering gear avoid the rebuilds from the local auto parts store. Get it from Tom (Old Man). Far more reliable and he is local to where you are located.

Post up when you get it. It takes two to diagnose steering, one to turn the wheel, and the other with their hands on the linkages.

I'm in Fountain. Been gone training in California since the day I picked it up. I got tags, drove it home, and jumped on a plane. I filled it up with gas and noticed a puddle under the gas tank. Hopefully it's a seal or something easy. I need some help diagnosing the steering issue and it would be cool if someone would look over it who knows what right looks like. I'll buy beer and lunch for your trouble. Not sure about the wheels yet.

Keep the wheels i think they look good. not black like everyone else. its a clean rig for sure. looks like you're about 3" or so of netted lift.
im off powers by movie theatre but am more than willing to give a look at it for ya on evenings after work. Flores is down your way and is a pretty smart guy - so long as you can stand a smart ass Mexican looking at your rig :D

as far as leak. if it leaked that bad id guess the filler neck. but look at tank for signs of moisture...

Thanks. It needs a little TLC. Needs to be cleaned up and there are some small things that bug me. I really want to make into a nice looking daily driver that I don't have to worry about breaking on some mild trails. I said something similar about everything I've owned and always end up spending more than I care to tell my wife making it my own though.

That's pretty much what describes all of us here...........

It's a dadgum Jeep. It's gonna break. Silly stuff will break....... at the most inoportune time. It's what they do.

I too like the wheels just fine. Black crawlers :thumbdn: If you want to do something really unique, have those wheels you have there (Outlaw II's) media blasted then paint them a dark gray metallic or something. Pop out the rivets before blasting (they press in, just cosmetic. You can usually get to them from the back of the wheel), then polish 'em and put 'em back in after paint, or paint the rivets black. But otherwise, there's nothing wrong with the look of Outlaws.

Like this but in a grey metalic:

I haven't been on here much. I had to take a trip overseas for a little while and just got back. Inaride, FrankZ, or anyone else who'd offer there expertise, I'd like to take you up on having one of you look over my jeep. It developed some leaks while sitting and the clockspring just went out. I'd like to fix all the small stuff before getting into modding this thing.
