really just building it for me and the family, so fuel splitting prob is not a concern unless Case gives me his allowence :D I am looking for matching air ride seats for the cab b/c it has a good one for the driver but the passengers have a 70% rigid bench. With 2 air ride buckets its will leave enough room between them to get into a mini sleeper that could house a jack knife bench that would fold into a bed if needed.

hey cheeseman...lemme know if you find a good way to tune that motor on that hog. we have basically the same truck for our sound business and it just seems to peter out when you hit about 60...there is more there for sure in that motor. it has good pull when you manually shift through the gears, but it seems like they did some sort of weird governing on it...maybe ours is just geared too high on top since its only a 4 speed allison auto...i just want to try to mess with it a little to get some more power/highway speed with it since we do make some long trips. its a good motor though, our owner is very neglectful and abusive and it still starts and goes whenever we need it. i've started it on below zero days with no ether, and it always goes

Nate, I am going to look at some sleepers this weekend, the guy is willing to sell for scrap value. I will take pics and let ya know what he has left. Shoot me a PM w/ your number again, I cant find it.

Thanks!

mechanical or is it a 466E?

get on pirate and PM "nevrenufhp" if you really want to do something with it. If it's a 466E you're going to spend $$$ on new injectors and ECM reprograming. Check his page here:
http://www.freewebs.com/nevrenufhp/

If the tires that are on yours are good cheese I'd probably take that money it would cost to replace them, do injectors and the computer and enjoy the low cruise RPM and higher weight rating of the tires.
I know how you farmers load grain trucks, there's not a tire made that's rated to support what farmers put on a MDT.

it is not an "E" model, it is the non electrical unit. I spent the day in the shop dinking w/ the XJ, so I did not make it out to look at the sleepers today. I am gonna give it a shot later this week. I was hopig to get the call the box was off the truck today, but no such luck.... :(

yeah i think ours might be an e...i forgot to check it when i was there today. i know he won't dump any money in it...i know there is a lot more in that motor. i can feel it in the lower gears, it just feels like something has a rubber band around its nuts when its in 4th gear

it will say right on the badge on the hood if it is an "E" or not. It is snowing here today, so I dont care if I get teh call about the box today...I am gonna measure the XJ tonight so see just exactly how much room I need to fit it on the back. The flatbed shop said we can ut a few more feet over the rear axle if we need to and it will easily support the weight. I have so many freaking ideas going through my mind it is not even funny!

Tyler, just as an FYI, my 94 XJ with a front winch bumper & rear bumper & tire carrier fits nicely on an 18' deck, it'd hang over a 16' deck.

Tip to tail the baby jeep with a front winch and bumper, no tire carrier is 16 ft.

the MJ takes every last bit of 16ft in the box truck, every last bit.

I'd shoot for 18ft after the sleeper if possible. Maybe the last 2 feet beavertailed to help with loading, if the overhang isn't so far you'll drag it everywhere.

I am afraid that if I go that long with 18' plus a minimum of 36 on a sleeper, it is going to not work with how much I have to work with. I may just do a full blown toter with the sleeper and a Western Hauler type bed and then haul the GN or the 18' car trailer and Camille could follow me w/ the PSD totting the camper. In all honesty this sounds like a lot of vehicles on the road and fuel, but no more then we would ever actually put together a trip like that it is still feasible. This would still leave us with a "run around" vehicle as well. Like I said...still up in teh air with what I am really gonna do. I got a truck, and I got HP...now to find a nice combination of function and affordability.

Keep in mind you can hang over the rear of the frame quite a bit. That 466 is heavy and when the jeep is on the bed, you've got 60%+ of the weight of the jeep in front of the drive axle on the toter.

I believe it is just at 16' to the rear bumper brackets from the back of the cab. I need to get the GVWR and some info on plating the thing as well, that may make a big difference. I am going to run it across the scales when I get it just to see what the cab n chasis weight is before I go building on it.

this.

My junk sits right over the rear axle i nthe box truck. As long as you can get the motor in the Jeep over the rear axle you'll be good.

I scaled it with Justin's junk in the back and I had 10K on the rear and 6K on the front. You're already more front heavy than I am because the 466 is a big heavy motor, probably 5-800 lbs heavier than my little IDI.

Don't forget that it's not a big deal to change the wheelbase. MDT's are all modular. You unbolt the rear suspension, drill some new holes in the frame, move all the bracketry, bolt it up and have a new driveshaft made. So if you've got to move the rear axle back 2 feet, no big deal.

Check surveyboy's "uhaul turn rig hauler" thread on pirate, and angryblacks hauler build as well for flatbed/GN hitch ideas.

I will have to check those out when I get home this evening...I am trying to get a cab visor purchased for this thing but daym they are hard to find or are crazy expensive!
