New to Raleigh

I am trying to solve my fan woes as well. I need a second e-fan to replace my absent mechanical fan, and also need to wire them up. Right now the only fan I have is the e-fan with stock wiring, and it only comes on when it's already too late!

I had triple 10" fans I put together when I first finished the stroker, and they crapped out in a matter of weeks, then I tried the Taurus fan, but even after cutting the hell out of it it's just too deep, I think because I have a 3-core.

Anyway, obviously no good for crawling around URE as-is.

Was it the Dirtbound set-up? That's what I was going to go with. Right now I'm running the stock e-fan, and had the Taurus fan ghetto mounted with a Ford starter relay running it. Kept killing the relay at the Crawl, including one that went up in smoke.

I'm either going with the Dirtbound or remounting the taurus fan and getting a proper Hella relay.

No, I built it using some 10" fans I found online and trimming them a bit for a perfect fit, if they wouldn't have been such shitty fans and taken a crap on me, it would have been a pretty killer setup. I had pretty much the whole surface area covered, and it moved a lot of air.

For the record, I was not implying that I wanted the low-down on some illegal places to wheel. I just thought there might be some places that fell into a sort of legal gray area, like the ones I am used to back in High Point.

As much undeveloped woodlands as I've seen driving down to Holly Springs on the 55 bypass, I was sure there would be some place to go get dirty. Oh well!

No worries. I'm sure there are plenty of those types of trails out there. I know of a couple of them here in Charlotte as well.

He's running some deals right now too. If I had money, there would be one of his fan set up's on its way to me right now. Stupid bills always getting in the way!

Are you on NC 4x4? There are guys on ther ethat have prvt and club property I think.

I've at least browsed over there, not sure if I'm registered. I'll check them out though at any rate.
check the leaf spring clamps-- when the springs start to flatten, they can get lose and "jangle" like a chain.
Exactly what it is! So, to me this means either buying new spring packs with something like a 3" lift to match what I'm trying to get together up front, or try to find a different set of not saggy rear leafs to build a bastard pack with.

Thoughts on which route to take there?

Get me face to face and I'll give you what I have learned in 8 or 9 years of lurking and posting on NC4x4. If you want to do a bastard pack and need the help get a set of s10 leaf packs and come see me. Make sure you have a weekend to kill. I have done several.

So I need to start with a set of XJ leafs that aren't saggy though right? I don't want to build a bastard pack that is putting the rear end where it used to be. It seems like it might just be easier to find some 3.5" leafs for sale on the forum or something.

It all depends on the end goal. A set of leaf's might be easy enough to find, however I'd go to a pull a part and for about $50 or so get a set of either dakota or s10 rear leafs. The condition of your main is all that matters. If it's flat it fine to use I'd say. If it's s shaped then that is another story.

agreed^^ as long as you cut the main leaf of the donor pack to reach the bushing eyes, the main XJ leaf will be doing little more than positioning the pack fore/aft. The weight will be supported bye the higher arched second leaf and the bushings and mounts.

I went with Dakota leafs ('92 4WD) and they feel much stiffer than the bastard lifted XJ I rode in with S10 leafs. Pick your poison, I guess.
