New rig.

Did a quick compression check on cylinder 1, it's up to 115# now. Still need to replace the head gasket, but this is fine for now. All the bolts on the manifold side of the head were "loose", the bolts under the valve cover were not loose.

Disclaimer.. he didn't finish the bottle of vodka.

Thx Mike, I plan on putting a 7120 head port matched to Renix manifolds on it. See how that works and I'll let you know.

Yeah i definately wanna see the results with this as i'm still interested in trying to make it down there to try and have you do work if and when you got the time .

My mother just moved to pismo so i'll be down there a lot more visiting and romping around the dunes.

Bought it local from Matheson Gas. He gave me a killer deal. I paid $2100 something for it. Ended up total $2900 something because of the tank, helmit, wire, gloves, etc... Plus I'm looking at getting a 625 plasma cutter. We will see about that one though....

So I finally worked on the Jeep tonight, Just fired her up for the first time all week and she has a coolant leak from a heater hose @ the tstat housing. The water pump, tstat, all hoses will be replaced anyways, so Im not too worried. She still doesnt run GOOD, I need to do the intake manigasket and head gasket, but my 7120 head is in Salinas, so next time I'm up there I'll grab it and start the swap.

Okay, so I have worked on my jeeps a bit since I last posted. Just been dealing with life and what not. Here we go...
I decided he head needs to come off, while doing so I'm going to port match my 7120 head to fit the renix manifolds and use a mopar performance .043 head gasket. Im not doing a HO swap, just going to use the first HO head casting. Not exactly sure on what the head will have done to it, I need to send it off to the machine shop to have it magnifluxed. I might use all new valves, I might not. Depends on what it looks like. I do have the head down here in my shop now, so time is the only thing holding me back.....oh, and laziness of course.

Here is what I started with more or less...
As you can see I started to remove some stuff before the pic.

Here is whereI stopped more or less.

I found a whole bunch of nastyness while tearing down the top end. This engine comes close to being the nastiest engine I've ever torn down. People......keep up on maintence.

Here is a pic of the head before I cleaned it a bit.

Here is after I pressure washed it.

Here is an intake port. *NOTE* look where the injector spray pattern hits. Shows me places I would like to do some work to get that as straight as possible to the valve.

This is the lifter valley as I would call it on a v8, on an inline....shucks, IDK......look you can see inside the engine. haha.

I bought the mopar performance headgasket through carquest about three weeks ago. Here is a few pics of it.

I still need to order some new headbolts, tried to find them locally and couldnt. Now I must get them off the interwebs. Any good places to go?

If you guys don't know, I have two Jeeps now. I picked up a purple 91 laredo from a friend. It has 274xxxish miles on it now. It has had a stuck lifter for at least two years. Well, I decided I wanted at least one running Jeep and the purple one would be the fastest to fix. I removed the valve cover to inspect all the rockers and pushrods. Everything was intact. Resealed the cover an installed. Ran the engine til it was warm, brought the rpms up in 500rpm increments til i hit 4-4.5k. Let it sit there for 5 mins then brought it back down in stages and let it idle for a few mins and shut it off. Next day did the same exact thing, this time I did it twice during the day. After that I drained the oil and replaced it with some mobil 1 delvac 15w40 I have in the shop. Ran it til it was warm and drained and filled again. I did the drain and refil twice then changed the filter and added the oil. I did this to make sure ALL the crap and sludge that was loose was gone. Ran the engine and guess what.....
Lifter was unstuck. Decide that it needed to be tested on a long trip, so I drove it up near Yosemite to visit family last weekend. Not a single tick from the valve train, great oil pressure, and on 3.55s and 31s I got 17 mpg. Well, On my way down the mountain to go See XJ Chuekin and buy some parts my RPMs, and Speedo quit working. Well, remembering the 91 is an electronic speedo I pulled over to check all the vss. Well, All were intact and no signs of damage. Decided I must have a charging issue or dead battery, well with no DVOM I shut the jeep off and to no surprise it would not start. Volt gauge didnt even read. towed it to Oakhurst and put an altenator and Batt in it and drove home.

This is how many miles were on it when the altenator crapped out.

So the jeep made the trip back no issue. Oil is a little dirty now so Im going to change the filter and all one more time. Before the trip I swapped rims and tires with the white jeep. Tires are almost brand new so heck, might as well.

This is what both jeeps look like currently.

Here is the tires that I swapped off the white Jeep.
