Or

Sig P226R .40S&W?

I vote for the .45. :D

I'm trying to sell a Glock .40 and a S&W .40, so that I have money to go to Moab. Then later, I want to get a .45.

Personally I prefer the XD anyday!!!! Only one small problem... the XD's do not like aluminum cased ammo. FTF, FTE, etc....Last year I went from a Ruger P89 9mm to an XD in 40 caliber. Then this year I went to the XD 45ACP and could not be happier. I bought the 5 inch tactical model and LOVE it as much as my XJ!!!!! One downfall is the ammo for the 45ACP is not cheap, so I don't shoot mine as much as I'd like. I have shot the XD9, XD40, XD45, in all models available...I was actually quite surprised at the accuracy of a sub-compact 45ACP and when I get the funds I intend on buying one of them for ankle carry. So from my personal experience I would say go with the 45 anyday!!! I however, have not shot any SIG firearms, although I would love to give it a try! From what I have heard from a SIG dealer they are among the best firearms made. Which is prolly why some law enforcement agencies and NAVY SEALS carry them for defense. Both are great guns and you should be happy with either.

me too, I sold my two glock .40s and went with a HK USP .45ACP and could not be happier, in my experiences it seems like the .45ACP is about the same price as the .40S&W and readily available from all the military surplus. Of course since I bought 1000-rounds at the last gun show and haven't gone shooting in a while, maybe the ammo prices have changed due to all the police forces that are employing the .40S&W round these days.

Both are good guns. The Springfield is finiky about ammo though. It really hates Remington ammo. I carried the Sig for years and it worked well. For me personally, the Sig sits a little high in the hand and leads to a little more muzzle-flip than lower models such as the Springfield. As for the .40 vs .45, they are both good rounds. I've used both on duty and have had equal results with both. Lots of people will debate the whole speed vs mass thing and I can tell you from experience, both are fine and have decent amounts of both speed and mass. When it comes to a gunfight, take a rifle, and a friend with a rifle!

Good luck and enjoy!

Between the two, go for the Sig, but get the P220 in .45 ACP. Also check out the HK USP .45. I'm currently trying to make up my mind between those two pistols, and the HK is edging out a lead. Just not a big fan of the XD; not a bad gun at all, I just prefer the non-Croatian guns. ;)

A pistol is what you use to fight your way back to a rifle.

i carry an hk usp compact 45 almost everyday and love it. the xd's have had very good revues also. i used to promote sig as a good gun, but when a friend of mine had one blow up in his hand. and sig didn't even want to look at it to figure out what happend. i lost all intrest in thier products.

x2 on what Matt said.Lately I've been hearing/reading more negatives about the XDs.

I have shot the P226 and as mentioned, it felt way "too high" in my hand, wasn't very comfortable at all.
Out of the P220 and the USP, the 220 felt more comfortable to shoot but H&K is top-notch just like Sig.

I don't know about the Springfield hating Remington...all I fire out of mine is Remington and I have no problems at all...Occasionally I fire Winchester Target Rounds...and like I said the only problem with ammo and the XD's that I came across is it's dislike for the CCI Blazers and the aluminum casing..

Sig 226, if buying new get the SRT (Short trigger reset installed). Awesome guns, reliable, feeds anything, I like the fit and the ergo's. I've shot the HK USP .40 (friends) and I own a 229. When I had the .40 barrel I didn't ntoice any difference in recoil although the Sig was always more accurate (only by splitting hairs). Havn't heard anything bad about the XD's but I prefer Sig's.

I've always preferred my colts, 38 detective special, 22 diamondback [looking for a 6" .38], 45 combat commander, 45 national match and my 45 gold cups. But at 6'6" the full 45's are just right... never been much on the plastic guns.

Might also want to check out the Smith & Wesson M&P. They have it in 9, 40 or 45. I own a 40 and it is by far more comfortable to shoot than the bulky feeling XD. Also, side by side, the M&P is more accurate (in my hands at least).

I have a colt 38 special revolver. My grandfather gave it to me years ago. It was his sidearm during the Korean war. I love that pistol, but don't shoot it very often due to the sentimental value.

I also have a ruger MK II .22 that I love. It is a great gun that I have put more than 10,000 rounds through just target shooting and goofin off. I had to replace the firing pin about 2 years ago, but it has been a very reliable pistol.

I have not heard any ammo the XD does not like. I have a .45 service and have been spending more time over on that forum.

Now I'm not going to say the XD is the best gun out there. SIGs have their rep, I would like a H&K, might get the Walther PPS next. However, I have put every kind of ammo out there through mine without a single incident. I'm around 3K now. Aluminum, cheap brass, good stuff, all different types and brands of +P.

For the money, the XD is an excellent gun. Fits my hand where many don't. Love the double safety, very easy to shoot. 13 rounds of double stack in my hand is quite a feat. Different calibers would be a different choice, but I wanted a .45 and nothing I tried felt anywhere near the XD. I'm not at all going to knock the SIG. I've always been partial to them. For the features, ergonomics, 13 rds. of .45 in a polymer frame, at a bit over $500, the XD is a home run.

I also have the tactical model XD in .45acp. It has consumed all ammo that I've fed it. (reloads, surplus, new) I don't use ammo with an aluminum case so I can't say much about that. It's been very reliable and shoots well.

My next .45 will be the new Taurus 24/7 OSS if I can find one around hear somwhere. Been hard to find so far.

I want this gun too! my friend owns a 24/7 9mm and I like it.. However I am stuck waiting for money and a new job, so parts for the XJ and new toys are on hold for quite some time now..
