New Pics of My first JEEP PROJECT

we took a wrence that fit around the pickup tube and then hammered on the wrench. it worked. kinda hard on the wrench tho. lol

Yeah I tried it then I think I seen the tube start getting dicked up so I quit there is a machine shop right down the road from me I can't see this costing much to press together.

Gerr recommended putting the pump in the oven at max temp for 30 min and the pick up tube in the freezer for a day. I may try that if getting the pressed together is expensive.

Actually the knowledge part is all right here XJ, there are plenty of helpfull people to do the stroker rebuild, and it really isn't that difficult to do a rebuild once you have the right parts for the job. I always found it's best to do it yurself than with a short block or crate motor because if something breaks you will know how to fix it and what parts you used in it.
Back in my racing days I needed parts for a crate motor, the company wouldn't sell me the parts, only a complete crate motor and wouldn't tell me what they used in it, all I needed was a lousey rod, piston and bearings. I finaly got it fixed but it wasn't worth the hassel, since then I built my own motors. I guess they thought it was some dark secret or something.

i also rubbed the burrs off the end of the pickup with emory clothe. once we get the tube square in the hole it drove right in.

i dont know if id put the pump in the oven. i dont know if id trust it. if you must do it i wouldnt put it in there at max temp. id go around 250 which is just a tad over what an engine runs. it would be ok to put the pickup in the freezer.
thats my 2 cents tho

UPDATE!!!

Well I took the High flow pump to a machine shop and he installed the pick up for 10 bucks.

5-90 always recommends soaking your two piece rear main seal in oil well I done that and all it did was Shear when I tried to install it. So on my second attempt I used what we all use to get something hard in tight spots. "Astroglide" worked like a charm.

Finally had about 8 hours I could dedicate to the Jeep. So I finished everything up. Had some problems with the Oil Pan fitting over the new pump apparently the pump is a lil larger. So I had to beat the baffle down about a 1/8 of an inch so the oil pan would seat. Took a lot of beating and mocking up till finally it was flush "enough" lol.

Took my time with the instal coating each side of the oil pan gasket with RTV. Reattached everything else I took off to get to the oil pan.

Tried to start and got a NO START ugh! no power to starter!. Played with the connections to the starter and voooorrrooooom!

I was a lil worried I would not have any oil pressure still. But with doing the High flow and the timing chain and rear main and front seal... I have a wopping 60 psi on cold and so far with my testing it hasn't dropped below 40psi but I havn't driven it hard yet just let it run to operating temp and took it for a spin around the block. But so far so good I am thrilled.

Who wants to go wheeling now. WOO HOO!!!

During our last trip to Badlands. I noticed a lot of noise coming from the rear end and I had yet to replace the droopy rear Left Leaf Spring.

First off my newest addition to the Garage my father's day gift. Check out the shiny Red tool box woo hoo.

Jacked up the Waggy to get the spring off

The Shim on the spring was broke also.

Anyway for the noise in the rear end. Cheapo Autozone brakes, the hardware holding them in place failed. So looks like I will be taking the junk back to get new junk. The drum is pretty glazed now so I will have to buy new drums.

Break and more Beer. Shot for Rev. Tess working on here heep. She changed out her broken fan shroud so she doesn't chop off her fingers when raising the hood and the engine running.

Wrenching in a skirt is that how the pros do it?

Great write up! I miss my 87 waggy. Damn did I beat that thing to hell. Long story short, got stuck in a creek bed, passed out, woke up with the whole cooling system blown. Started up, got winched out, changed the fluids and it was good to go. Gotta love em
