The Jeepspeed guys all run 10" shocks because they're rule-book limited to 10" front travel and are not allowed to cut the inner fenders to run the shock mount higher.
Not all. A couple have stuffed a 12" shock in there for the reasons I stated above. But their lower shock mount is below the housing and they had to modify the bump stop so the housing does not come up as far. IMHO those are compromises that I could not live with just for a few extra ounces of oil.
Also, you're kind of hard-pressed to get more then 10" of travel out of the front end without making some geometry changes in the track bar and drag link.
Really the magic number is about 13". That is why there were discussions about changing the 3700 class rules to limit front travel to 13" - because that number is relatively easy to hit without totally reworking everything.
