New intake install

I have a '98 Wrangler 4.0L and I was wondering if the new style intake will be a direct bolt on. I know the power steering pump won't be an issue, but what about stuff like injectors, fuel rail, sensors, etc.? I can get one for $50, so I figured why not if it's all pull off and put back on. Thanks!!

i have a 91. i put the new intake on without any hassle. my 91 injector rail lined up perfect and i even used my old 91 injectors (i've since replaced them with the mustang injectors) there are only 2 obstacles. one is ,on mine i had the old power steering unit. i replaced it with an entire unit with hoses from a wrecking yard. everything bolted right in place. and the second is some of the vacuum lines. i had to screw in a couple of fittings from my old manifold and i had to lengthen the lines to the sensor if i wanted to run it in the front opening. otherwise the cables on the 91 did reach it in the back postion. it runs real well and it smoothed out the bottom end with my bored out throttle body. the new manifold with new injectors gave me around 1-2 mpg around town but i didn't notice much gain mpg on the freeeway.

Kewl, thanks guys. I'm gonna pick one up this week. I have a bored out Throttle body spacer as well. Would you guys run that with the new intake considering it already has a much larger plenum size?

i forgot to mention i run a banks header and it was no problem. i assume the borla shouldn't be either. i had a throttle body spacer but i didn't use it with the new manifold. i would think that it shouldn't hurt anything. i do know that when i had it in place (before tha manifold) it lifted the turbo city air tube up just enuf that when i closed my hood, the latch cable hit the tube and put a dent in my hood. so just keep an eye on that if you run filter across the engine. stock airbox or airtube that fits to the stock location shouldn't be an issue

The only reason I asked is on GoJeep's web page

he had to play with his injectors and zip tie them or something like that to get them to work. Also, I've got a Borla Header--think that will interfere?
He had to zip tie the connectors because he used the newer style injectors that came with his new manifold. You can use your existing injectors with no problems at all. They fit perfectly.
I did this swap on my 95 and besides the ps pump and vacuum line modifications, the only real ploblem I had was that the #5 primary from my Borla header was interfering with the bottom of the new manifold. I had to grind away some material from the bottom of the manifold where it contacted the tube and also squished the tube slightly for fear of grinding completely through the manifold.
I don't know if the tubes on your 98 Borla are the same as mine, but you might want to check it out. Maybe someone else here might have some year specific info...

Does any one know what year(s) power steering pump will properly fit my 1991 in order to complete this converstion? Would it be any pump from 1999-2002 as these are the years of the new style intake? Does it matter if it comes from a TJ, XJ, or ZJ?

In reply to mikeyl:
I have a 91 XJ also and want to do this conversion. I keep reading that the ps pump needs to be changed and you said you had the "old power steering unit" = 1991? What year pump and from what vehicle did you get the ps pump from at the wrecking yard?

What Mustang injectors are you using? Any problems running lean? Any fuel pump upgrades?

Thanx

i forget the actual date ,unfortuantly, but i believe they switched the pump bracket style in 96. if you go to a junk yard you will see that the new style mount has a single tension bolt and the idler wheel is on the power steering pump bracket. i don't have any pinging with the mustang injectors. so i can only assume they aren't running lean. i've had fuel issues lately but i don't think they are injector related as they have been in for awhile before the rpm drop out at 2600rpm. a new filter seems to have cured it for now anyway, lol.

the injectors were from fiveomotorsport.com
sorry, i missed that question the first time. call them and they will have eacatly what you need to know

I used my existing pump on my 95 when I did this conversion.
All I did was drill out the threaded holes that were on the existing pump in order for the longer bolts that go through it to bolt into the new style manifold.
You will need to do something about your pump pulley in order for it line up properly with the other pulleys. I took the easy way out and got one from the dealer for the 99+ models.
I also bought the bracket and other necessary adjusting hardware from the dealer (it wasn't too expensive and I didn't have time to pull them from a yard).
Basically what you end up with is the belt routing for the newer models, so the serp belt for the 99+ is what you need.
Hope this helps. Here are some picks.

what corbinafly showed. nice pics, makes it easier to install!

I called a wrecking-yard and drove 2 hours to get the new intake as they said there was a 99 XJ in their yard. When I arrived, I was informed by another guy that the 99 XJ reported to me on the phone had been sold over 4 months prior.

I have called 20+ yards within 250 miles of my home and can't find this intake manifold. The jeep dealer wants $320, I laughed.

Anyone know of any stores or online dealers who sell this item? Does anyone have one they want to sell?

Thanx,

D

NAXJA kicks A%@!!!! I knew someone would come through with a dealer to buy these parts, thanks Slaughlin! I found the intake (and about 10 others) at one wrecking yard only bout 1 hour from my home using the website posted by Slaughlin.

Thanx Mikeyl for the injector info and to Corbinafly for the GREAT pics and install logistics.

I just installed SS Borla headers & exhaust and I am anticipating that I might have a clearance problem with the new intake manifold and the # 5 primary like Corbinafly did, wish me luck.

Let us know how it goes and if you have the clearance issue with the Borla and manifold like I did.
