New Hesco heads

Yes, but all these hi-power AW4s have different valve bodies than whats in our Jeeps. I won't pretend to be an expert on these trannies, or anything for that matter, but I do know that the A340s / AW4s being put behind 400+ horsepower are not exactly the same as ours.

You could go with something like the Level10 trans, www.levelten.com ,but then you add another 3k+ to price tag.

Not really. Talking to the owner of level ten, the AW4 does great with just a mild valve body upgrade. The valve body upgrade will increase the pressure on the clutch packs, in the same way a performance pressure plate works on a manual clutch. Assuming the factory clutch packs are in good shape, the AW4 can handle pretty decent torque with an upgraded VB, and the right fluid. If you want it to handle some serious power, upgrading the clutch packs and bands would be required.

The AW4 has the potential for being a great tranny. It just needs some massaging by the people that know it best.

If I really wanted to go for some power and lose some weight with aluminum, I'm thinking LS1 would be the more cost effective method. Or at least the more fun method...:D
