New Guy from ND

Hey, my name is Heath, i live in fargo ND. Im 21 ive had mostly cars in my life, 19 of them actually, 5 DSM's, a few boosted civics, a turbo RX7. This fall i bought a Toyota 4runner and that got me interested in off road driving and performance and after doing research into the subject I found i liked the Jeep Cherokee's best and would like to get into one. Ive worked on a few jeeps, my dads 90 cherokee and 1995 Grand Cherokee v8 so i have a little base knowledge concerning Jeeps. Just wanted to stop by and say hi and start off with a question. If i were going to get a XJ, with say about a 3000$ base budget to buy one, what would i get? Manual or auto tranny is best in these?

You can find a plethora of XJ's for $3000. I personally would go w/ an auto for a wheelin rig, but that is my personal preference, along with skinny strippers. I personally would tell you to stay with the 91 up models due to the fact they are the HO motors, but others love the renix units as well (87-90) search the forums and you can get the pros and cons of each year and options. Welcome aboard...we are the jolliest bunch of as*holes this side of the nut house!
