wow, Glenn, are you serious?? no kidding! wow, thats crazy. i never would have figured you for the outboard guy!

well, fortunately i figured out the problem...

one of the outboards at work (a 2001 yamaha 200 HPDI) had some trouble starting for the first time this season (i winterized it last fall). the damn thing ran with the choke in (key pushed in), but as soon as i let it out, it stalled out immediately.....

long story short, i put a meter onthe high pressure fuel pump, and found it to only kick on whne the choke was pushed in= weird. so i ended up pluging a new control box w/ harness in and it ran great= bad existing wire harness. so i traced it back to a wire harmess extension that was laying in a puddle in the bilge....the connections were green and wet=bad so i cleaned them up and its all fixed. luckily, total cost of parts=$0.00. ( i was prepared to spend $$$ on a new high pressure fuel pump!)

its good to know you know yamahas though....im sure i may have some additional questions for you in the future!

Why would you want to put a Jet on a v-bottom boat?

Also whoever put this chart together doen't have a clue on Jets and outboard jets (my practical knowledge) especially.

Might work okay on a zodiac, but that's because they are strapping an easy double in HP than any outboard that could be put on it.

Interesting but 950 lbs is a bunch of weight, boyancy or not. Considering a 150 HP with a jet is in the <400 lb range.

I'm excited about the (bio)diesel aspect of it... the only other diesel outboard is a Yanmar 30, way too small for my boat, and I don't feel like re-engineering the stern to fit a heavy I/O.

Never thought of the biodiesel part. Still a bunch of weight in a small boat. An I/O has more power than any jet of the equivelant HP though. I wouldn't want a jet unless I was running shallow. My 120 Merc (about 80 at the pump) is a little slow out of the hole for me. An that's on a 17' (5' floor) and 7 degree bottom. The boat builder slapped me in the head when I told him I needed a 150.
