That is not uncommon if you have a hole in your CAT. You should be able to let it cool down, then drive it a few miles at a time at reasonable speeds until you can get to an autoparts store where you can get some muffler tape for a short term fix. If nothing else, pour some water on the carpet and get it good and wet to prevent it overheating in the mean time.
exit 49 is athens and they have plenty of stores for this kind of fix. im the closest to you if you need some help or one of the atlanta-chattanooga travelers, not sure when they left or are leaving.
just talked to him, tyler will be coming up with some flashing and screws to makeshift a heat shield, and i think he might still get some heat tape to help in athens.
no holes in the exhaust, new exhaust system, but put too close to the floor in the rear and no heat shield like later models have....
Thanks tyler! Arrived in harlan setting up camp now.made some heat shields on the side of the road and then had a muffler shop lower the exhaust some and made it no problem.
