As the title says, I need to borrow someone's 1 1/4-12 RH tap. I made some control arms and the RH side of the control arms threads are too tight.

I live in the Pasadena area but I can run to your place and chase these threads pretty quickly and then get out of your hair.

You can get a whole set and auto zone for $25.
You won't find that size at Autozone......that's an expensive tap.......around $50-70!

Avery,

If all you need to do is chase the threads and you can't get a hold of a proper tap,
You could try using a cut off wheel to cut flutes into a 1 1/4" X 12 grade 8 bolt and make an impromptu thread chaser.
I've had pretty good luck doing just that in a pinch (Toyota cylinder head bolt holes in my case).......just a thought.

I believe you are incorrect. A single tap like this is usually pretty expensive by itself.

I actually tried this but thanks.

I am pretty sure I have one at work. I'll check tomorrow and I'll text you or something to let you know.

Avery, you might want to try the oldest hardware store in town, you might just get lucky. The local Ace has some pretty large taps on the shelf.

Good advice but unfortunately here in LA all those small old hardware stores are far and few between :(

I figured as much. There are still 2 here in this little tiny burg, and a few goods ones up in the Twin Cities. I generally go to any one of those for must of my crap.

A few years ago, I needed a 1/8" NPT tap. Kid in the local hardware had no idea what I was talked, he said "Wait a sec," walked away, and came back with the oldest gent in the shop. The gent inquired as to what I was looking for, reached up and took one off a peg.

You need a bottoming or taper?

I believe taper. I need to chase some existing threads. The last 2 threads tightened on my bungs after I welded them up.

I live near Danny and work near Griffith Park if that helps???

Thanks.

I live in Arcadia and work in Compton.

You have one he'll of a commute btw.

I work in Culver city and can get to Danny if need be. Avery, bring the arms with you to work and i can pick them up there and take them where ever they need to go.

Thanks!

I have them here.

Thanks for letting me borrow that!

It took less than 5 minutes to do both of them and they are on the vehicle now.
