Picked up some friggin bug, or we've accumulated too much crap...

I just wanna start all over and reinstall windows.

I've backed up what little I wanna save, so how do I wipe the rest of the slate clean?

Thought it was format:c or some such, but I'm just about totally clueless...

Somebody help?

Thanks much

Boot from the CD. When asked to upgrade, or new install, tell it new install. When you're partitioning, delete all the partitions first, and create new. This will force it to reformat the partitions.

Format C: won't necessarily do what you want, and if you try to do an upgrade install, your system will probably behave very strangely.

Thanks, but you gotta break it down even lower than that, pretend you're talking to a six year old...

No, he'd probably already know...

The disc I've got is a double "Restore CD" with eMachines name all over it (I'll wait while everyone finishes laughing...)

Put the disc in the drive and restart?

Help. I'm an imbicile...

So, when you booted from the first RestoreCD, the instructions made sense? Not bad for working from memory (a u**x admin by trade......)

I'll let the eMachines slide. I know some folks have been quite happy with them. My g/f bought one, and took it back 2 hours later. It did NOT perform up to spec.

I have two Emachines and have been very happy with them. For the money you can't beat them. I also have talked other friends and relatives into buying them and have heard no complaints yet.

Yeah, thanks much! I've reinstalled like this before, but I didn't remember that it'd boot from the D drive. I thought I had to clear C to get it to...

I bought mine for $300, lasted a week. Took it back and got the runaround, but eventually got a free upgrade to a 30gig hd and a cd burner.

That was three years ago. No real problems since. Just gets bogged down after a while. I just wipe the slate clean, and it runs like new again.

(Yeah, I know there are utilities I should be running to keep this from happening, But hey, why change the oil every three months if you can put in a new engine once a year for less trouble?!?)

Thanks again!
Robert
