Hi all,

As part of an engine purchase to replace the blown engine on my '86 Cherokee diesel, I have the option of walking away with any parts that I'd like from the '86 Cherokee that the replacement engine came from. I'm trying to put together a list of the most valuable and most relevant parts to request (i.e., small things that seem insignificant but are prone to failure and would be nice to have on hand).

So, if you guys could send lists my way of the things you would ask for were you in my situation, that would be great. This is a mostly complete '86 Cherokee (Wagoneer trim), so most everything is available and most of it in pretty good condition. Interior is missing a bunch of stuff, so we're mostly talking about the bigger ticket items.

Thanks for all the help.

It may depend a little on whether you have room or time to speculate. Good power seat mechanisms on these are pretty hard to come by, for example, and could be a useful item to sell or swap even if you don't have power seats.

Glass? Thieves love to break the little quarter windows in the rear doors. Spares would be nice. Maybe not a problem in Cali., but rear hatch latch and door latches and handles tend to rust and break out here.

Steering gear if it's good. Check the condition of the steering column and shaft and its universal joints. Those can be handy.

Anything you can carry off...

Whats the gear ratio? I bet the little dsels had 4:10 or lower, and someone will probably snap up that front axle, possibly both to save the headache of regearing.
