I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but I have a brother-in-law that has his YJ stranded in San Ramon. By the sounds of it, the rear drive shaft (Tom Woods) needs a rebuild or replacement. Any recomendations?

SoCal. Yea he's been driving around town like that, he's gonna be up in San Ramon for about a month. So he wants to get it fixed while he is up there. He is Thinking of taking it to the 4Wheel Parts in Oakland...

Tell him to get on google and look for a local driveline shop. thats the way to go. Does he have basic hand tools? If so, he can replace the 3 U joints in the thing himself pretty much anywhere.

No, he has no hand tools and very little to zero mechanical knowledge. I built the Jeep about 9 years ago for his dad, and he got it as a graduation present... He doesn't really know what to look for on-line.

I imagine the 4WheelParts will just outsource the job. I have heard the Sacramento 4WheelParts uses Sacramento Drive Line.

I use them and they have been great over the years. If he ends up going to 4WheelParts I am sure they will source a good shop or at least point him to one. Sorry I don't know of anything in the bay and would just have to look someone up.

he should consider west sac driveline even though its a little far.

There is a place called 4wd sprcialties in concord that can help. There is also a driveline shop in pittsburg as well. If it is just a regular u joint replacement any auto shop can do it. Lots of auto repair shops in the area.
