Are you talking about over on the western part of the state?

The only one I've heard of is Hurricane Creek. It's literally off I40 right before you hit the Tennessee state line. Never been out there to see it yet, but always wanted to. Saw some pictures on here a looooooooooong time ago of somebody who did go out there and it looked pretty cool for ome sight seeing.

I don't really know to be honest the information Ive been given is what im relaying to you guys to see if we can figure out Where this place is.

There is a trail or trails from what I have heard that are over toward Haysville and Hiawassee. Now that being said what I have also heard is that it is part of one of the energy companies access roads and runs for several miles. I was told 20 or 30. Now this is all rumor. If it is true good luck getting access to it.

There's a road called Richland RD near Boone that is really hilly, somewhat scenic and has one creek crossing if I remember correctly. It's an actual road or used to be anyways and should be legal.

Over towards Travelers Rest (upstate) has a BUNCH of long hiking trails to a bunch of different waterfalls. I've not been able to find any actual vehicle trials but if they're there I'd love to check them out. The only road that I found fun is the road to the top of Sassafras Mountain overlook but 75% of it is paved and the rest is graded dirt road. Let's just say your transmission get's hot going to the top and the brakes get hot going to the bottom.

Who told you about these trails?

Ive actually been to Richland RD myself when I visited some friends up at App State. Its off 321 going towards blowing rock. Theres actually a street sign on 321that shows where it is.

EDIT: Found a thread on NC4x4 about it:http://www.nc4x4.com/forum/index.php?threads/richland-rd-2-25-12.117392/

Richland is a legal right of way. I would caution about the people that live on that road though they aren't very friendly to people joy riding.

I can make a full day out of a scenic gravel drive in the Boone area if someone is interested, I took Tim last year on some of the state roads in the state/national forests.

Best done either in the Fall to catch the color change, or the Winter when there's snow, IMO.

You and I have done one run in each season.

And this is why I wish I had a driver.

That looks like fun, I think ill have to check it out sometime. I actually enjoy lil trails like that with a view. Might take my girlfriend out there sometime.

If its owned by the USDA (forest service) all camping is legal (its considered wilderness camping)
just check local fire restrictions, currently a burn ban after 4pm in VA and NC (spring wildfire season)
