Obviously I like Rausch and Twin Grove because its only 90 minutes from my house .... so my contribution will be a bit selfish in nature.

I vote for leaving NACFest and RocktoberFest as is, and creating a third annual event at the place you mentioned.

People are always complaining that there aren't enough organized events for this chapter. This is a great way to add a third organized run, and to give everyone the opportunity to wheel up north.

Some people will come to all three, some will come to two, and some will come to only one. Which is just fine.

There are a bunch of folks from PA, NJ, and MD who aren't active on the boards but show up to either NF or RF as their only wheeling trip of the year. If we move one of those two events up north, those folks won't come. Its just the way it is.

I absolutely recognize that the "up north crew" has been traveling many hours for both these events for years now .... and the group that comes down has been getting a LOT bigger. Which is AWESOME! So I wouldn't throw a fit one way or the other.

If a third event isn't an option ... maybe bounce NF or RF back and forth year to year?

I just know that the years NF or RF is up north, there will only be a handful of PA/NJ/MD people coming up. Maybe that's ok.

This.

NAC needs a 3rd event somewhere besides rausch.

there's some slightly milder stuff, for the record...but I'd say 33s and locked as a minimum there. It's an absolutely awesome place to wheel.

If you are legally registered and inspected (no matter the state), you don't need a permit. If you don't have a valid inspection sticker, the vehicle is not considered legally registered, at least officially...YMMV

Unless you're on a motorcycle...then you need one no matter what. :(

How does ct factor in? We have no safety inspections or stickers

whats a class iv road? :dunce:

My only fear with making it a third event is the lack of attendance.

I don't want to force people to have to come up here for a second event, but as with anything it will be hard to get people to commit. I know all of us in the north don't require the same investment the southern NAC people will ($$$ as far as gas, time off work, the drive itself, etc.).

Are people from the southern area realistically going to make the drive up here? I personally don't care about the commute down to RC from my perspective, that has nothing to do with this. I just wanted to help support local land use, and I would love you southern guys to come up and see the wheeling up here.

A pre-registration similar to NACfest where you pay for the campsite, BBQ, and a t-shirt would work the best, and we could come up with a sweet name for the event at some point.

Since this would be an official NAC event, I'm guessing I need to motion it to the BOD for a decision on date, etc.? I have no problem heading it up if that's what's necessary.

I think this is a great idea. I will say what I always say to someone that brings up a new event, and wants to attract a large crowd.....

If you PLAN it, they will come.

Pics/descriptions of trails and accomodations... basically as much info as you can provide will make it easier for long distance folks to decide if they want to make the drive, and is all part of the planning.

nh road classes:

  • Class I – all portions of the turnpikes and the national system of interstate and defense highways, and all existing or proposed highways on the primary state highway system, excepting all portions of highways within the compact sections of the cities and towns listed in RSA 229:5, V., which aren't part of the state or national turnpike system or are defense highways
  • Class II – all existing or proposed highways on the secondary state highway system, excepting all portions of such highways within the compact sections of the cities and towns listed in RSA 229:5, V.
  • Class III – all recreational roads leading to, and within, state reservations designated by the General Court
  • Class III-a – boating access highways from any existing highway to any public water in this state.
  • Class IV – all highways within the compact sections of cities and towns listed in RSA 229:5, V., which are not Class I or II highways
  • Class V – all other traveled highways which a town has the duty to maintain regularly and shall be known as town roads
  • Class VI – all other existing public ways, including all highways discontinued as open highways and made subject to gates and bars, except Class III-a roads, and all highways which have not been maintained and repaired by the town for travel thereon for 5 or more successive years

yeah, I know. I was being a smarty pants- He said class iv road, but meant to say class vi road. and Bob was wrong, he gave the definition for a class vi road, a class iv road (as far as I know) IS a maintained road... so yeah, you can feel free to ignore my smartass comments :D

How much would it be to have somebody come down and BBQ a bunch of pork and steak products the saturday of the event after wheeling? It's an end of the summer event, last chance for a big BBQ event. Plus, then we can call it ROASTFEST.

Wheeling
BBQ
Campfires and beer

Just sayin

As with any event anywhere, Colin, it can be difficult to get people to commit if its a "new" event. I've been around long enough to see that firsthand with a few local clubs, its just the way it is.
That said, I personally appreciate your concerns about time off/ fuel/expenses for the southern end of the region, but I'm fairly confident PLENTY of us will find a way to make it up to a new spot. Let's face it, there are plenty of people from your "neck of the woods" who make the trip to RC, and it appears that list is only growing, so I dont see it as a major issue, there will be plenty of "locals" who make it regardless, and Carol and I will have the pleasure of being the "guests" of the NNAC....so you're cooking for me this time, homey.
As previously stated, I'm all over running some trails in a new place. My black '01 has now traveled thru and/or wheeled more than a dozen states and Canada, so I'm happy to add a few more to wheel, camp, and enjoy the company of all our friends in the NAC, no matter where youre from, or how you get there.
Plan it and WE will come.
