My new Super Swampers wont stay balanced!! help

My 34x10.5x15 LTBs run smooth even at 80mph.......they just get flat spots when it sits in the cold.

The best tires I ever had, and after these Ill get them again.

ive got a buddy that runs 33X13.50 LTBs.
he got them ballanced at a shop for about 10 bucks each, and it didn't do a thing. over 30 miles an hour the jeep felt like it was flying apart. i worked at a tire shop, so i told him to bring them by, and rebalance them for him. most average tires i saw during the day needed 2-3 ounces inside/outside of a wheel to balance with a "bad" tire needing 6-7 ounces, and those were usually larger truck all terrains. i threw one of the LTBs on the balancer and got a 33 ounce reading, thought that couldn't be right, and tried it again. same deal, with all 4 tires.

so we headed to walmart got some BBs, put 10 ounces in each tire, and its much better. isn't perfect, but its definately driveable.

plan on balancing my 38 inch SXs the same way. im not hoping for a miracle though, with a bias tire that large, just something that can get me to the trail and back

i balanced my creepy's with bb's, didn't even try bothering with steel weights. another added benefit to the BB approach is that they can't get knocked off by a rock like a steel weight can, and also the fact that they are constantly balancing the tire, like if a tire gets a chunk taken out of it, it won't screw it up too badly...

everyone in this thread is correct, bias ply tires change balance as the tire heats up and cools off. my swampers ride terrible, and the flat spotting is aweful. if it sits more than a day or two it takes about 15 minutes of 25-30 mph driving to heat em up and get them round again.

dont expect the flat spotting to go away, but running them at 40psi will help. airsoft pellets will work good, but you will hear them at low rpms. go to a tire shop and ask for "balance bags". they are small sand bags, they work the same way as the airsoft pellets and cost about 15$ each. they use them for balancing semi truck tires.

but they lack in highway driving and rock crawling. Personally. The best tire for a mud/all terrain would be the TSL.

iroks are widely used in rock crawling. best tire for people who cant afford creepys and one of the cheapest tires available in comp compound.

those creepys were the roundest bias ply tire i ever ran, i didn't even run bb's or wheel weights in em'

I have a "slightly", ahem, redneck friend with a large mud truck, like 12in of lift and 42" tires. He has like 10 golf balls and a bunch of airsoft in each tire. I do not know why he put the golf palls in there, but they make the craziest sound when you stop at a light from anything over 35. and they sound funny as hell when you start up.

with my 33" boggers i had an average of 9 oz on the outside of each tire and 5 on the inside. the most was 11.5. didn't bother with the BB's cuz i was getting new tires soon anyway

So i connected my sway bar and drove the car to work this morning. and it wasnt that bad. You can still feel like the tire wants to explode off the hub. I still bought the .12 gram airsoft bb's and am going to put 8 oz in each tire.

Huh haven't seen you on NAXJA before. I have seen you several times on JF but never here

I would hate to feel what you consider bad then, if the wheel feeling like it is going to tear off the hub is OK

haha it felt like it was going to fly off w/o the sway bar on, but now it is a little more under contol.

that just means that the swaybar has limited the suspension cycling because of the out of balance condition. It also means that you're beating up on another part of the jeep. You haven't fixed anything, just transferred the stress to another part of your suspension.

plastic the metal ones will rust and turn to dust.

I used to think the same thing....However, I've seen plain old zinc coated BB's work. They've been used for 4 years or so with no ill effects. They do get very shiny though.

The dynabeads are really ceramic blast media. Really small. But I couldn't find any without having to buy a whole 55 gallon drum full, so I bought those little packages.

If you keep the inside of the tire dry, you won't have any issues, like Hale said.

Sorry, thats what i was trying to say. Iroks and Krawlers are good rock tires, Swampers are good Mud tires. IMO

I had similar issue on my K5..i was running 39.5 swampers and they were VERY hard to get balanced (and was my daily driver)...I ended up having 2 bags of the shot (airsoft pellets) in each tire and anywhere from 10-16oz of weights on each wheel...Discount was not very happy with me (6hrs to get close to being balanced)...but made a world of diff...And being bias-ply, like stated,-once they warm up a bit they pull into a more round shape and ride a bit smoother...But it will never beat a goold ole BFG MT ..IMO...Swampers looked awseome on my truck but the drawback was a rough and rigid ride..
