My Homemade rear bar and carrier

Steve

What size tubing did you use for the main bar?

You gave sizes for the tube for the mounts but not for the main bar.

How is it holding up after a year?

Doing great, never even had to adjust the latch. Few scratches but nothing that a spray can couldn't fix. Maybe I'll take a pic or to tomorrow.

Cheers

I tell ya, that's one helluva nice bumper! Great job steve!

Looks great, and thats an awesome bumper many would be proud to have, but your XJ is right hand drive. Why would you put the tire on the left side? If it were behind (on the right) you would have better visibility out the back. Just my opinion.

If it was on the right it would stick out in traffic when I park at the side of the road and open it. Also spreads the weight of driver and spare more evenly and helps keep the Jeep level.

I still find it funny that the first 50 pics show the plate number and the last 50 pics they are blurred out in photoshop.

Great Build Nonetheless.

One of the guys on the Aussie forum that I'm on had his plate details given to the traffic authority here and the Jeep taken off the road. I started blurring my plate after that and deleted the pics from the Aussie forum as I couldn't be bothered going back to blur them out. I left them here as I guessed it wouldn't be an issue.

Cheers

The modifications could not be approved in the state he was living in, he was given a certain amount of time to change it (long arms were in etc so basically it had to go back to stock) and since he was moving he just got it inspected by an engineer and registered in the state he was about to move to. Here the modification laws are very strict and in this case a do gooder thought it was his civil duty to report the Jeep as unsafe to the state authorities.

Where did you get the round piece of steel that goes on the spindle with the bearings in it. I'm makeing a similar swing and all I can find are hubs with lugs and all.

TIA

Steve I missed it but did you say where you got the spindle? I see you got Marcus's approval, that's all I need. Good job mate.

Great job! I made a swing-away for my CJ before and I have to say it is so much more gratifying than buying one. Awesome job again!!!
