My Homemade rear bar and carrier

now make a few more and sell them, cause that is the best looking bumper I have seen yet. granted need a US version with the spindle on the other side!

very nice!!!!

Thanks for the compliments guys. I very briefly considered making some more as the second time around it would be a lot easier but since it was all done with limited tools, meaning my grinder and 140Amp stick welder, If I charged for labour the cost would be ridiculous. All up it was about 30 hours of work to get this far!!! The main reason I did it is costs of this sort of thing here in Australia is pretty high since most of the Jeep stuff comes from the US. This cost me about $300AUD to build (including latch and spindle etc) but would have been more like $2000AUD to buy with carrier. The LED taillights add about another $80AUD. Current conversion is about .75USD to each 1AUD.

As a bonus I sold my old tyre carrier (mounted to the stock bar and hitch bolts) for $400 so I should come out ahead by about $50 but have a new bar and a carrier that can take the 32's that are going on shortly and bigger if I decided to later on :)

Excellent job Steve!

It's a very similar design to my bumper by Durango4X4, but with your attention to detail and strength, looks to be a better design. And, is less than half the cost. Cheers to a great design and build.

BTW, what did the latch you are using for the swing out come out of? I have been planning to convert my latch to that style, and the size of the latch you chose looks perfect.

Thanks,

Brad

The latch is not from any specific vehicle, I got it from a local supplier here of Eberhard latches (cost was about $25AUD). The US website is here, http://www.eberhard.com/latches/passenger-restraint.html , you guys will have a better range to choose from than I did and there is even one with a longer release lever that would have been perfect but it's not one that was stocked here and getting the local supplier to bring it in especially was too much wait and hassle.

Cheers

Really impressive. One of the nicest bumpers I've seen yet. How about drawing up some plans and sharing with us?

Sorry, got no drawings, most of it was done on the fly, you could probably work it out from all the pics I've posted anyway ;)

Anyway, added the checkerplate and wired up the lights, and before anyone says anything I know my passenger brake light isn't working ;) noticed it when I took the pics.

And brakes on as well

Also bought the steel for the tyre carrier and nutted out the design.

How hard was it to relocated your tail pipe. I think moving the hatchwiper relocated a lot of things.

Good work Steve.
