Hi, my name is Jake and I am 14 years old. My dad just got me my first XJ. My 97 Jeep Cherokee is completely stock. I am planning to put a 6.5" lift with 35" tires. If anyone out their has any advice or tips please post.

Cool, welcome to the XJ obsession. Learn to use the search, read, and wrench. There is a plethora of information on our forums. 6.5 and 35s, that is great but with that comes axle up grades, gearing, sye................

Welcome! Good choice on the XJ for a first vehicle. Mine is my first vehicle, and got me through the last 2 years of high school and so far 3 years of College reliably.

I see you're from Memphis...we've got a lot of members from there and surrounding the surrounding area, i'm predicting a lift party in your future. :D

edit: and please...PLEASE...use the search button before you post a question, or you'll regret it. Consider yourself warned....

from personal experience. start out small... and move up from there.
learn your jeep and its capability in small baby steps. best advice i can give you.... besides get a job and start saving your money cause this is an expensive hobby!

i.e. budget boost lift and 31s

Because you will undoubtedly come to the decission that welding on your Jeep is 'good' you are in a position to take advantage of welding courses at your school, I'd think.
Most everything that can be bought can be built and it adds to the fun and the cool factor.
Best luck and welcome!

Welcome to the SEC and Congratulations on your first XJ!!!!! Almost makes me mad. I got my first XJ last year and I'm over twice as old as you are. Looks like I spent my youth on raw power and alot of tires when it could have been spent on the trail. Oh well, better late than never.

Read, read, read. There is alot of info on here and alot of guys willing to help. A picture is worth a 1000 words to most, so post up!!!!

If you need help and can't find it, ask.

The Comanchee I have is for my twins. They are only 10 but will be 11 on May 30th. I let Little Glenn (on of the twins if you did nto know that) drive some around the farm now. Keep your wits and don't abuse it. ;)

A 14 year old with an XJ....:scared:

Like others said. Get familiar with searching before you ask questions. You're undoubtedly going to have questions like "what size lift for __" tires" or "what size lift should I do first" or "what are the best/cheapest tires"....all these can be found by searching. Use keywords and look at the bottom of threads for "related threads"...those can be a lot of help.

But...the biggest advice I can give you is please learn to drive! I'm talking on- and off-road. They will complement each other and keep you and those around you safe. Good luck and welcome to the sickness...I mean, welcome to your new hobby!

My first ride was an XJ when I was in high school and loved it. All that "cargo" room was nice as well. I to had high hopes for a huge lift and all the accessories, but as well all know we all know that stuff adds up quick. Here is a link to some great low money mods that with a bit of time you will learn alot about your ride and enjoy making it your own. http://naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=960846&highlight=cowl+hood Good luck and if you need any help feel free to ask. Go ahead i get think skin to flaming (posters crying and barking about not search enough or newbie questions) Just make sure that you do atleast try to search a little before you ask and make sure you post it in the right area. This all will help you A) catch less crap from us smart asses and B) put your question in an area you will be more likely to get a correct answer. Good luck, drive safe, and enjoy your jeep.

Welcome!

My first bit of advise is take time and make a plan. Decide what the XJ is going to do and then read all you can about different setups. Build it to do that job. Don't try to keep up with the Jones'. Build it the way that works best for you.

You will be surprised how a little lift and 31"-32" tires can lead to a lot of fun without the breakage issues.

What's funny is Jake has better writing and grammatical skills than >80% of the rest of the people who post here.

A 14 year old.....with a lifted XJ....on the forums......asking questions....that is the sign of a true...:patriot: jeeper!
