I'm having some issues with my steering. some grinding noise I can't diagnose it
but I went to swap out the steering shaft and took a look at my JCR 3/16" thick spacer. bent.. don't know when that happened
the bolts were on tight. I used an impact gun. I replaced the steering shaft because that was my first guess. the grinding noise seems to be inside the box where it connects to pitman arm. all the rod ends are good. it only started up last week and I flopped over a month ago. I'm stumped
yeah but a KP 60 is so damn expensive. I like a 44/60 on 37's for the full widths and slightly larger tire. I've seen vids of rigs that go up an obstacle on 36's then come back on bigger axles and 40's and have more trouble. and I don't know if I have the skills to put a shave kit on a 14
either way. after that flop I want to sit wider, lower, and have a hybrid cage
if you look hard youll find a ball joint driver drop HP60 ford 60 for like 600-700.
youll spend 3-500 on a HP HD 44 .
run the numbers, you'll see a 60 will probably be cheaper, you wont need to upgrade shafts and stuff like that.
WFO will shave a 14 bolt for like 50$ so you dont have to.
If you want to tell yourseld building a legit 44 is cheaper than a 60 , go ahead, its just that you will spend about the same exact money on a 44, or more, to be weaker....
well you've obviously done the math. I've only skim read a couple pages about it because I'm not seriously considering it yet. I cant afford to do it the right way so I'm just gonna beat the hell out of this one all next summer
I think if I can find a semi decent stock xj I'll buy it and start working on it. I need a DD. then take it full width
i would run yours the way it is for a few years and beat the snot out of it before doing anything else. youll be totally stoked on how well that thing will do.
ive been camping , DD, wheeling my junk for 7+ years started on 33s and moved to 35s a few years ago. The dana 30 is a strong front axle. Dont try to do it all at once, and once you work out all the kinks its just maintenence and all the parts you break.
oh I am totally stoked on how well it does. I wheel it every weekend I love it. it's just turning into a big mess and I don't want to put any more money into it. definitely still want to go to the rubicon this season though. just still deciding if I want to armor it and make it last a bit or just let it go and beat the piss out of it
