My first build! Jake's 93xj Blog

that's what I thought. Chad (guy who did my gears) has done over 20 dana 30's. I just went and paid the bill too
what do I do

step 1: buy a repair manual.
step 2: read the manual.
seriously, other than the electrics, jeeps are stoopid easy to fix at home.

im pretty sure you can put the shims outside the bearings, he might have had the backlash really really close and didnt feel like pulling the bearings off and just put them on the outside of the bearing? ive never seen it on a d30, but on a lot of other XJ rear axles, so i guess it might be doable. i honestly dont know how he installed them without ruining them

picked up that xj from ruffstuff today

features:
year might be 89
336,000 miles on a renix engine
rusted 2x6 rockers and frame stiffeners
1 broken microwave

yeah virtually nothing useful. this thing is junk

but the body is straight and there was a cool surprise in the front seat haha

LOL, i saw that jeep there.. That was a sad excuse for an XJ. Was it free? Score on the 30 cover!! I was there with my daughter who managed to find a toilet seat and a roll of Tin foil which kept her busy while I looked through the piles of stuff. I Picked up a 30 cover for 20$, 44 cover, and a +2 perch kit at a great price!!

thats a sweet cover !

it's a parts donor. body parts. it turns out that I bent quite a bit more than the pillar. I'm going to need to cut out a large section and replace it

windsheild $200
a pillar $100
door $75
guy to do windows $100

that's $475 before a paint job so buying and cutting that white jeep for $300 is cheaper. my jeep is considered totaled. but I can fix it with help
and the above listed parts isnt even everything I need. this is everything that got bent. and the dash needs to be pulled outward

found some 297x axle shafts for dana 30 on craigslist last night. swooped them immediately
then I went to NAPA and picked up some spicer 5-760x ujoints and full circle clips

rented el u-joint tool from autozone

grinded out the shafts to fit the full circle snap rings

I wasn't carefull and ground off a bit of the ear. how bad is that?

Great find on the axels and good idea with the full circle snap rings too.

yes they were a good find I got lucky. love the peace of mind with the full circle clips

guys I've got a cage on the brain. my interior is shot to hell and will never look pretty again
so, why not just rip out whats left and build a hybrid? what do you guys with cages think. worth it or hate the added weight and loss of space?
