My dealings with Rusty's Offroad

What would be nice to see is Rusty come here, blue name and all and defend all the smack that gets talked about him and maybe try and correct some these issues but like I said, I'm not holding my breath.

the tie rod end it self was still in great condition still tight and held grease. it just decided to sheer off where it threads into the tie rod.
I had that happen with a heim a couple of times. Never did call the vendor for a warnty issue though. I would guess that you over stressed it over time. Defective steel would not have taken a year to show up.

He's done it before, just didn't have the blue name then.

He's got it now.

I can honestly say that I dont think I rember ever seeing him on this forum I have seen him attend a couple of crawls though. His son yes I think I rember him here but not Rusty. Some people are builders and wheelers and leave all this computer stuff to the web wheelers of the world. :)

Last year there was a couple of weeks that he was here a lot, just before I took over the sponsorship program. He and I talked at length via the forums and then had several long phone calls about some product issues - which he seemed to genuinly care about.

I didn't actually see any change come of it, but to be fare, I didn't give a fair amount of time for the wheels of productivity to turn.

I'm trying to go into the future relationship of Rusty and Naxja with an open mind, and Hales post here does help to reenforce that for me.

Thats true.

But if I had the reputation Rusty has I think it would cause me to become a web wheeler pretty darn fast.

I love when that happens. Its right up there with tires getting sliced while you drive down a flat dirt road.

or finding a bolt in the road in the middle of town!

could be. it wasn't a DD tho so the jeep didn't have alot of road use. probably a good thing I would not have wanted to be in that thing if it broke on the road. I will not being buying or trusting of anything steering related from Rusty's ever again, but I wouldnt have a problem buying anything from them that doesnt come with a TRE.

Mine was and is not a DD either. But I have been know to cruise to the Sonic for a Rt 44 tea! That is why I prefer TRE's over heims. I have had a lot of issues over the years. I can get a TRE at any hardware store anywhere. Heims are a different story. Yes I carry spares.

well I gave Rusty's a call today about my tie rod that I bought from them about a year ago. Being the original buyer and having what looks to me like a defect in the tie rod end (or cheap material) I thought this should be pretty straight forward, right? no not at all. I was given a part number and set on my way. so much for being constant or fair. no offense hale but maybe if I sell you my tie rod it would get fixed. here are some pictures tell me what you think. and yes the jam nut was tight when I hit the trail...

Sort of like the way you type. Grow up and use real English. We aren't texting here.

I bought my first lift kit from him. 3'' with full leaf packs and full 3'' lift coils and shocks. I got them in about a week. The only thing i noticed, was that when i swapped the rear axle out, the bushings were bad. Now mind you, I beat the living hell out of this thing, and it probably saw some good sideways blows. but that was the only problem.

I also have a Rusty's track bar on my MJ. Its pretty good quality and its adjusted RIGHT, so it won't fail anytime soon. Usually when you see them fail, they're set up with WAY too many threads showing.

Rusty is a great guy. He's got good customer service, and that lift kit was one of the smoothest riding kits I've seen.

you dont need a a good picture to see there is a TRE broke inside the tie rod

I still love it when people complain about a TRE breaking. Rusty doesn't build the TRE's. Do people not inspect wear components any more. I'm not saying it doesn't suck because it does, but people really need to look at sh!t every once in a while. JIM.

Well said! I agree TRE's suck but if you check them you know when they start to go bad and you can replace them!

the same thing happened to me TWICE! once with just his 4.5" short arm kit and again with TnT Y-Link upgrade. it has since been replaced with a MUCH better component/system.

same here

one who does not learn from history is destined to repeat it!

true, he does not make the TREs. but if it was a product that i was producing, i would exercise a little better quality control. if quality was determined to not be the cause of failure, but a design flaw was, then i would SERIOUSLY change the design. using a TRE in that type of aplication just sucks- plain and simple.:puke:

both time i broke the cRustys TB, the TRE was tight, boot held grease, was regularly greased with Red and Tacky, and the jam nut was tight. both times i had to weld a nut onto the TRE threaded stub that was in the TB and then use a lot of PB Blaster and a hot wrench to remove it. and yah, product failure is ALWAYS caused by user ingnorance right:gee::dunce:
