Finally got the gas tank and transfercase skid plates done.
The gas tank skid is 1/8 plate pieces welded together and to the aftermarket trailer hitch.
I don't like the self tapping bolts I used to attach it at the front. It is attached with the eight bolts that the hitch attaches with. We'll see how long it lasts.
And here's the transfecase skid plate. I still don't like the self tapping bolts but as long as it lasts until I get some stiffeners welded on I'll put some sleeves in and bolt it all the way through the frame. I'm also not sure if it will handle the weight of the xj sitting on it but time will tell.
I drilled through the flange on the stock transmission skid plate and welded some nuts on top of it. Built some spacers out of two pieces of 1/4" welded together and to the skid. Then I used some 3/8" bolts and lockwashers to bolt it up.
It's all 1/4" plate.
There's about an inch between the plate and the transfercase.
One idea I had was to use 1" strips of 1/8" and weld it vetically around the outside edge of the skid and gusset the piece that goes at an angle up to the frame.
Do you think it will bend up even if I add the gusset around the outside edge.
Next thing is to install the tow hook bracket's I ordered from Tomken and to build a steering box brace. I'd also like to get the draglink and tie rod from a V8 ZJ.
