my 91 xj

A lil sloppy but here's how I wire my fans up so they work normal like you changed nothing then flip the switch and the fan will stay on flip switch off goes back to normal operation

That looks right!! I was going to do the same thing, but havent had the need for it yet. I ordered like 5 relays off of amazon for 10 or 15$. My buddy uses them in his truck and they hold up great even with vibrations and mud

Yea the only thing I make sure to do is tie in my relay right before the stock plug so that way if I need to change the fan out it still uses stock plug n go

thanks for that picture. im going to pull the manifold and header tomorrow and weld up the crack in that. and change the down pipe gasket. i dont think its leaking there. but it could be.

this is a shot in the dark, but maybe put raw dish soap on the area you think its leaking, and if it starts bubbling then you found the leak?

i could, but since i need to fix the crack i can see from tube #1 ill just take a good long look at it when its completely off the truck. and im sure there is more then just that one crack. i have also discovered a vac leak. its been having a high idle issue today leaving work. was like 1200rpm.

Best way to find exhaust leaks is shove a blower in the tailpipe and tape it off good then feel around.

Although it would have to be a pretty huge crack to cause overheating imo

original header afaik. and 251k? it dont hear any real ticking but i guess some guys from my thread said that they have had heat blowing back on the block causing running hot conditions.

That's my trick. Works good.

i did that today. there is one crack almost all the way around the flange like 80% of it. and then there is cracks at
every pipe to pipe joint. and one big long crack running down the bottom side of the number 1 pipe into the collector. :banghead:

im just going to replace it with another unit that i purchase this week. to much welding to do on that to be worth it...
also after climbing under it. i seem to still have some caked on mud to the side of the block under the header.
im sure thats not good for cooling. :banghead:

on a better note. i was able to get my bumper mounted and ran the wiring for the new lights and bolted them down on the bumper.

i also replaced those shitty amazon hid kit with the 100/80w bulbs again..
(i seem to like the yellow. i have decent vision at night and the jeep wont go fast enough to feel like im over driving the lights)

what do you do that you need that much light? my 14" LED bar lights up everything...

Wow . That's nuts man. Now that makes sense . Holy crap.

i work on diesel trucks.. and our tow yard has 0 lighting other then the moon at night. and its near an orchard so we get random dogs/coyotes.. was chased into a truck the other night by a stray dog..

looks like it keeps you on your toes!! And your rig is looking sick, sorry to hear about your exhaust....im sure 90% have the same issues that you do just we dont know it yet!

haha tell me about it. its scary at night now knowing what could be looking at you from the 2nd or 3rd row of trees.

haha thanks! and yeah, figured i would just pick up a tubular header off ebay for around 140 bucks.

ok, so i got under the hood and installed a mechanical temp gauge..

i also took my inferred temp gauge out side with me to get some numbers.
i have a 185 tstat.

i let the truck come up to temp about 200 on the stock gauge,
and 180 ish on the aftermarket. (pics below)

i waited till the jeep hit 210 on the stock dash gauge and took my infrared
temp gun and measured temps on the cylinder head and around the t stat
housing.

i was getting about 245/255* at cylinder one.
i was reading about 208/212* on the t stat housing
i was getting anywhere from 224/265* at 6th cylinder rear
gauge sender unit.

i have a video of that whole process if anyone wants to see what i did and the temps i read.

this deal popped up on c-List. had to take it guy wanted 150 bucks for a part out rig.

87 4.0 5speed. dana 30/35 completly stock. (he ripped the motor trans and xcase out already)
