My '90 XJ 2-door and some of its budget mods :)

Picked up this XJ a couple months ago and have been adding things to it on a budget (it's just my utility vehicle, so I don't want to spend too much on it). Anyhow, here are some pics...

specs:
'90 XJ 5speed
mystery front coils and AALs for a measured 3" lift f/r (no blocks/spacers)
skyjacker hydro shocks, OME steering stabilizer (all new)
all new front steering components and trackbar (with axle redrill)
BFG 30x9.5s, Hawk brake pads
Blackout fabrications rack with Hella 550s, tire mount, etc
other stuff...

homemade tire mount

fused distro block for all accessories/extra lighting

lighted rocker switches for accessories plus extra switches mounted in coin tray

maglite mount (it also has 2 velcro straps holding it on the bracket, not installed in this pic

here's a closer shot of what I did. I had an extra switch plate (like the kind to the left/right of steering wheel) that I got from a junkyard. Dremeled it to fit right in. The screw in the middle holds the plate there so I can take it out for wiring, etc (better than epoxy)

switches are from http://www.4x4mods.com/ and are excellent quality and backlit. Much nicer than cheapos from pep boys!

I'm betting the swichplate could also fit in the flipdown tray with some dremeling as well - I use the ashtray to hold my cellphone and Ipod and that coin tray below is too far back to be useful to me, that's why I put the switches there.

lol nope, not a problem. I'm about 6'0" but I'm used to driving japanese sedans and old British sportscars, both of which have very narrow "leg areas" compared to an XJ.

The block really isn't as big as it looks in the pic

antenna mount had to be sideways because the XJ barely fits in the garage as it is! And I'll admit, I don't wheel all that much or drive anywhere I need a CB. It's just there because:
1. the antenna (with broken mount) and CB were in the XJ when I bought it
2. someday I'll have a need for it - either wheeling or broken down on the side of the road. Rather have it for that one time I actually need it....
3. it looks kewl yo!

What kind of a track system is that on the roof. Not the mounting brackets, but the track that the brackets attach to. That's not a factory setup right? I don't think I've seen any quite like that.

the roof track itself? That's the stock track on the 91s and before as I recall. Later models have the raised rail track.

I HATE shoty wiring jobs. I hate seeing exposed wiring! Why not put it somewhere that you can't see!?

If you have a cable to plug into the bottom of your Ipod for AUX to the radio it fits perfect in front of the T-case shifter! Mine stays there all the time and only falls when I put it in 4wd...

If you have a cable to plug into the bottom of your Ipod for AUX to the radio it fits perfect in front of the T-case shifter! Mine stays there all the time and only falls when I put it in 4wd...

IDK... Im thinkin your brother is Randy from Randy's eletrical corner from JP mag... anyone who's read some of his asinine tech will know what I mean

all in due time. With a new baby and other projects I have limited time for the XJ. I wanted to get everything hooked up and running and eventually will get around to making all the wiring more hidden and/or cosmetically pleasing.

The XJ = function over form at the moment, until everything works. Then I can worry about how it all looks!

funny you should mention that since I was at Radio Shack yesterday picking up some adaptors to do exactly that. Then again, the XJ sound system sucks so badly compared to the 10-speaker Alpine + 8" sub in my maxima, when in the XJ I usually just listen to sportstalk radio rather than music :roll:

It looks nice. I like how you have your Hi-lift mounted. I wish that I had a two door so I could let myself get rid of the back seat.
