A good place to check tire prices, availability and performance ratings is tirerack.com

I used to live in Jax (southside) and lots of guys down there used to run Interco tires (super swampers) - they're great offroad but a little noisy on the road.

I am partial to BFG Mud Terrains for a all purpose off road/on road tire, but they're a little bit over your price range.

My brother has had good results with Dunlop Radial Mud Rovers ($156 each before shipping at tire rack).

falken makes a really nice hybrid tire. they are rated for 50000 miles. i run the a/t on my truck and i like them better then the bfg at i was running

a good hybrid tire in your price range is the Goodyear Wrangler Authority. They are only available at walmart and are 146 a tire. People hear walmart and get scared, but so far they have worked well for me in rocks, sand, and mud, and are great on the road.

They seemed to have the most trouble in a deep sand and pebble mixture, but i hadn't done any of the normal tricks like lowering the pressure and they still worked, just seemed to dig in a bit.
