Moving to Indy(maybe)

i live on the far east side right on the border of cumberland. like most have said inside 465 it gets shitty but the farther u get from downtown the nicer it gets.we bought r house a couple months ago for$200k and its almost 4k sq ft. there are some shitty things i kno of tho. a couple miles down the main road runnin east west (washington) there was a crack house that got shut down called the indy east motel. im not tryin to be discouraging but my brother also experienced an attempted carjacking from some ghetto ass white boys and did get shot at and once in the arm. hes fine now. and i moved from munster in right outside chicago and ive felt more comfortable in gary in some parts of indy. mostly east and west sides inside 465

Indy is a bit of a weird city. Many good places to live, and many bad. Often times they are only seperated by a block or two.

Downtown is nice if you want the big-city feel, mostly condo's and duplexes. Some houses are close, but the neighborhoods get sketchy.

I live in broadripple, which is the college / just graduated crowd. A nice neighborhood feel, and close to everything. I work in fishers, girlfriend works in carmel. 15-20 minute commute for the both of us. We are opposite of the traffic flow, the opposite commute would likely take 45 minutes.

Fishers/ carmel / westfield is nice, but it's very much "keeping up with the jones's". It's mostly subdivision, which I'm also not a fan of. plenty of other good communities outside the loop, or south, I just have no experience.

For a 1-2 bedroom house in a nice neighborhood expect to pay $6-900 a month. Apartments are cheaper, as are houses outside the loop.

If you guys end up moving, and need more info about specific areas, I would be glad to help.

I say just move to Brown County, Nashville IN, like I am in a few months, and JUST SAY NO to traffic! Actually tourist season is a bitch, but I will put up with them for peace and quiet. Still agree the southside is great for all purposes, and will keep my house here if I can. AND as a carpenter, I work on the northside a lot, hate the traffic, commute, and pretty much everything there. Some nice people there, lots there for image. And those Carmel cops,Hamilton county sherriffs are something else...... Know the truck laws there, hehe.
Just added a nickel to my .02$ hehe Ed

There are plenty of back roads in brown county to bypass all that traffic!

I have cousins that went to school at Lawrence Central and lived maybe a hundred yards from Geist reservoir, Byron. How old are you you might know my cousins?

OK, a bit late in the conversation but....
I'm in Hancock County, just East of Indy, it's the cheapeast county on the outskirts of Indy to live but growing steadily. There are 4 high schools in the county and all 4 have construction going on due to growth. Greenfields building a new middle school that will be ready in August. The county has a lot of nice places for sale or rent and depending on where you are in the county you can be downtown Indy in 25 minutes. I work at the Speedway during the races and I can be at the track in 30 minutes from home.
Rent ranges widely, the small house next door is 600 a month, one down the road 1200. There is a lot of new business in the area of Mt Comfort right off I70. The East side of the county is growing fast, the west side is growing but much more open.

you pretty much hit the nail on the head there. i work in broadripple at the bike line, just north of the brew pub. bring your XJ by sometime!

I live on the southside and work on the northside. Doing construction I get to move around alot, unfortunately its mainly Geist, Carmel, and Fishers. You can see a difference in the peoples attitude from N to S.

As far as the weather goes, if you don't like it wait 5 mins. and it'll change.

I cant believe how close all of us are and we havn't ran across one another. I live in Wannamaker. Flex, I saw your friends xj this past year at the slamology. Big time bummer man, good looking rig. I'm thinking we should get out clubs together and do an Indy run to Badlands or Redbird.

I was with Jeeps Gone Wild but most of the Indy group went off on our own.

I'm in Trafalgar, 25 miles due south of dt Indy and love it. I love the country and live the city behind since I have to work in it 5x a week. Good schools, place to raise kids, etc. and not too expensive if I do say so myself.
